Hope that works for you this time. That target was actually 10 shots. 3 shots cut into each other, 2 shots also cut into each other.
All were close except one. Shot using Lead Sled., on a folding table.

I've never used a muzzle loader scope .... are they designed to hold up to the harsh recoil of a 45-70 ..

I am not sure.
I dont think the recoil is to bad on a 45/70, I've shot much worse.
My 12 year old nephew killed his first buck with my apex 45/70. ( obvious adrenalin helps with recoil, lol ) I'd put any kid behind it with the right load.

Recoil is different for each shooter. Speaking solely for my self, a shot or two isn't all that much, but, continually shooting, it starts
to pile up.
First time I shot mine off a rest, on my shoulder, I shot at an old oil bottle I found, no biggy, I thought. Later, firing multiple rounds,
was another matter. Ended up with a nice shoulder bruise, that perfectly matched the recoil pad, LOL. Not the end of the world,
but it does get your attention.
Just my $ 0.02 worth.

understood on the adrenaline .... I've never felt the recoil or so much as heard a shot I've fired at a big game animal .... firing Cowboy Action level 45-70 ammo isn't bad at all .... Dangerous Game level is a very different story .... the reason I asked about recoil affecting a scope is I've had it happen .... many years ago I put an inexpensive scope on a 12 ga slug shotgun .... after a while I noticed what started out as tight groups growing wider with more and more flyers .... everything looked fine and I couldn't figure out why .... as it turned out the scope failed due to being subjected to stronger recoil than it was designed to handle

I've never had that happen, but am cautious on it. I was considering a red dot sight I liked for the 45/70. After reading the specs& the fine print, it said not rated above 30 cal. Nixed the idea.

An old habit of mine, Jim. It's saved my bacon a few times. And you're right, can't always find it.
