Braved the weather today and went to the range. Wanted to shoot the 100 and 200 yd boards today but could not see them. Snowing too hard. 22F and we are getting the winter storm they predicted now, but a couple of hours ago it was just ramping up when I had the range all to myself.

Since 50 yds was about the max visibility today, I shot 20 rounds off hand. The 1885 High Wall. 45 Colt, 6.6 gn of Universal and 200 gr lead. I used only the buckhorn sights today just to see how they shaped up. I like them actually. This is one heavy rifle to shoot off hand though. No wonder Quigley only put 3 into that bucket. He had a nap after that. You can't take long aiming or the barrel will start to drop on you. So you just have to get at it. All in all not too bad, landed a couple in the middle but top right seemed to be the spot today. A bunch of them ejected ok, but some had to be pushed out. I don't care, it is sooooo much fun to shoot.

as I seem to recall, when shooting at much more than point blank range, Quigley fired from a rest .. .. great to hear that you really like you new High Wall

Great shooting RR and yes you wore out the upper right of that target! Is that 6.6 gr. load down a bit from normal 7.0 with the Henry?
Do you plan on exploring other loads?

You could give Quigley some serious competition, RR. Nicely done and, hey, love that you are out there shooting in a snow storm. That's a true blue shooter if ever there was one.

For sure, a standard 1885 or Sharps is way too much for me to shoot, offhand. Our Hunter versions of the 1885, though, have slim tapered octagonal barrels and weigh under 8 pounds. Those I can shoot, offhand.

I loaded lots of 200 gr lead with low end and higher end powder weights. Just grabbed the first box in the cabinet today. Loaded in spring 2019. Nice light load to plink with.

Ya but thats not just because you go shooting in a snowstorm. She would feel that way no matter what.

Good shooting as usual RR. Seems the more you shoot the 1885, the easier it ejects. That would be nice. My wife thinks I'm nuts most of the time.
Probably have lots of company on here with that one.
