Wrote an email for warranty service on the rifle a couple days ago. I have not heard back from them as of yet and wrote them the email requesting the service on Sunday. It is now Wednesday morning. Hope to hear something soon.

Got an email and return label in yesterday (10-14-2020) to send the rifle back.

I would like to send the rifle back with the Skinner sight and dovetail blank removed, which I have already done. But I wonder what Henry would do or say if I sent it back without the rear stock. I have cut the rear stock down and refinished it to a 12.5 " length of pull and it took some time and a lot of effort to do this. If they would decide the rifle needs replaced I would hate to have to redo this again on the new stock. I have called two days in a row with no answer. Just curious what you guys think they would do.

I am not slamming Henry, they make a great product and I am fairly confident they will make it right. But people slammed the heck out of Remington on the new Marlins QC but I have several and they are all top notched also. I like my Marlins but this Henry as far as the way it is made will be right up there with them. Just have to get the bugs worked out.

I really am hoping that I don't sound like I am bashing Henry, don't trying to do that at all. I have had several, mostly 22's but I have bought several and they really don't stick around. I am more of a Browning. Winchester, Marlin guy. The older models from the past. But I really do like the way this Henry feels in my hands and have high hopes for her. That why I named her thumper.

I'd call again today and advise them that you're going to keep the stock when you return the rifle. I expect that it will be a non-issue. If for some reason you can't get through by phone, I suggest replying to their label email advising them with an explanation for why the stock was removed. This, of course, is just my opinion. Please keep us posted. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I finally after three days got a answer to the phone. I was advised to leave the stock on, they made a note to make sure the stock was removed and replaced to the new rifle if needed. Also they said that they will make sure I get the stock back. She was left at my LGS today for UPS pick up. I boxed it up and placed the label and everything on it. Dropped it by. Easier than having UPS pick it up at the house or dropping it off to them. They are at my LGS almost every day. So it was easy peasy to get it sent back.

Did you change butt pads when you shortened or were you able to grind the factory?

How do you like the shortened rifle? It's on my to do list.

I think all of us that like shorter stocks should be sending notes to Henry asking for them to make a shorter stock available. No reason why we can't pick up a shorter stock affordably and keep the factory one for selling later. With or without the rifle that is...

I used the but stock pad that came on it. Worked out really well. Henry has had my rifle for a week now and they have not looked at it as of yet. I am going through withdrawal not having it. I am hoping all turns out good. I really believe that they may have to replace the rifle. I don't know how you can re drill the receiver to center the scope mount screws that are drill to the left of center. The rifle just shooting a foot to the left with the factory and Skinner sights, I really don't see how that can be fixed either. Keeping my fingers crossed though. Anticipation is killing me.

Never have been able to get intouch with them. They must be very busy plus the Corona thing. I did check the online status and it shows shipped to me today. At least it awaiting UPS to pick it up. I can not find what was done, but I should have it in the next 4 to six days I would imagine. Can't wait to see if it is better. They may have rebarreled it or said it was in spec. Time will tell. I sent a Golden boy back once because the rifling did not go to end of the crown, they sent it back with a new barrel in it. That barrel was correct. Anyway I have the Skinner sights for it and order a set of Williams peep sights which are my favorite to put on it, I can lower the Williams sight lower than the Skinner sight so might be able to get by with the original front sight with it.

I received my rifle back today. It was replaced. They took very good care of me. On the new rifle they put the shortened LOP Butt stock that I shortened on it and also put the wrapped lever that I had done on it. Warranty paperwork says "Replaced" and that is it. The one I sent back had a buggered up dovetail on the rear sight from the factory (butt it worked) and I had drifted the front sight to the left. This front sight is dead center on the new rifle. The screw holes on the new one are dead center for a scope rail, or in my case a Williams rear peep sight, the old one the screw holes were drilled off center to the left. Also the rifle that I sent in when loaded with 6 rounds it was hard to put the magazine tube in and it would pop the lever open. This one (I have not shot it yet) when I load it with six rounds the magazine tube went right down and the lever did not pop open. I will see how it shoots probably tomorrow. Very pleased with Henry at this point. The serial number is totally different on the new rifle. So the old one must not have been repairable.

I have a Skinner sight that I bought for it but I really do not care for the Skinner sight as much as I like the Williams. The Williams sight is able to be lowered more than the Skinner sights. I should be able to use the front factory sight with the Williams sight. I will post pictures of it in the next couple of day's. I put a plug in the rear dovetail slot and with the Williams sight it looks awesome. The Williams sight that I used was the WMS 5D 336 #70224 if anyone is interested.

I also fitted the Brass Magazine follower to the Magazine tube. That took me a little over an hour to sand it by hand to make it skinny enough to fit in the magazine tube but the rest was a perfect fit. After sanding it and then polishing it with 2000 grit sandpaper. It appears to slide up and down the tube easily with no resistance. Loaded up easily and will give it a try on the range tomorrow but don't see a problem with it. After the range session I will post some picture of it tomorrow. I like it a whole lot better than the plastic Henry follower. Doesn't feel as cheap, but as we all know the plastic follower that comes in the rifles from the factory will probably never wear out. But I do like the feel of the brass follower a lot better.

Took some pictures for you this morning. I have no fear that everything will be fine. Everything on the rifle is better than the original one I sent in.









Here is the Magazine tube with the Brass Follower. It seems to work better for me but I really believe that original rifle had a problem because everytime you loaded it the lever would pop open. This one loads smooth and does not due that.

Thanks for the update and the photos. The new rifle looks fantastic. My BBB 357 was replaced a few years ago, as well. Henry Repeating Arms is the best!

Mostly the ammo will be LaserCast 300 gn RNFP and some 350 gn SJFP.

New rifle shot really well yesterday. I shot some Hornady (I think called Leverevolution), some 300 grain Laser Cast RNFP both shot really well. I then loaded up some 350 grain Hornady .458 Interlock and it would not let the lever close. I checked the overall length of the cartridge, it was 2.54 something don't remember. I ended up setting the bullet back to around 2.51 and the lever would seat. I will see how those shoot maybe some time this Sunday after Church.

This rifle shoots very well but I will admit, it is not fun to shoot. Even with the butt pad it hits that should like a hammer. I don't think I even had a 12 gauge shotgun kick me as hard as this thing does. I have a 8" x 3/8" AR500 steel plate at 25 yards (that plate is pretty heavy) this rifle spins that plate complete around the hanging post that it is mounted to. That is the reason I bought the rifle for though, to really have a thumper incase I ever needed it. The 45/70 is not a fastest round on the planet and I will never need it to shoot 300 yards or more, but it is definitely one heck of a lead pill that, is just plain devastating to anything it hits. Including my shoulder.
