CZ 455 FS

Post by BigAl52 » Sun Aug 16, 2020 11:13 pm

Ive been looking for one of these used at a reasonable price. Looks like that aint gonna happen. Prices on these have gone nuts as other things. This to me is way over the top but maybe its just a sign of the times. Probably a good thing as I have been thinning the herd at my house. Time to make things simple.

I bought one new in March of 2019 when the prices were affordable. I refinished it and put on a Schnabel and a grip cap. I also bought the 22 mag and 17 hmr barrels. I haven't had it to the range yet. Here's a couple of photos.

Pretty guns, but the stock is not my style. I have a SilencerCo special edition 455 Varmint with serial number matched .22 LR and .17 HMR 17.2” threaded barrels. The .22 doesn’t shoot especially well but the .17 is a flat shooting tack driver. I need to fix the trigger though. It is still factory and a bit heavy.

I have had several CZ bolt action rifles including a 453 Varmint (double set triggers) that I sorely miss. None have disappointed me.

There is a trick to getting the (way) overtorqued barrel screws loose on the 455. Use a metric 3/8” square drive Allen bit and a 3/8” rigid breaker bar. Remove the slack and then give the bar a quick jerk. The screw will pop loose easily. Getting it loose with just a small Allen wrench may be impossible. Or you could use a hand impact driver with the bit, and a hammer, but that shouldn’t be needed, a last act of desperation only.....If nothing else works.

I quite like the switch barrel feature.
