Range Report: more Daisy in the backyard.

I want to use the 10 meter targets I have so I measured out 10 meters. I now have 10 meters and 20 and 25 yards marked.

Yesterday I removed things that somehow just got hung on the backstop. Before it was the only thing there and I wanted to distract from what it actually was.

My first three shots. Almost missed the cardboard on my second. I’ll be working in the back and will try three more 3 shot groups today.

I’m not really sure if I’m using these targets correct. I think I’m okay on the distance/discipline but not how to hang them. I’m not getting sharp cuts unless the cardboard is supported by the steel.

I made up several with different uses.

Lunch target wasn’t any better. I want to end the day with a target with all three in the black.

I have no doubt you will stick with it and dial it in. I have some of those same targets and they do tear a ragged hole. I get better looking holes when I use a glue stick to attach them to a backer like you have. I have also used old magazines as a backer for targets.

I agree with Seabee. You're gong to get a wall hanger of a target in no time. What pellets are you using? That Daisy 853 is a true 10 meter completion rifle and all 10 meter guns are designed to shoot wad cutter pellets for the sake of cleaner holes for scoring purposes, not to mention that high grade wadcutter pellets are some of the best quality pellets made. The stuff used in serious completion come in tins with individual pellets actually wrapped and separated from each other. If you can find some RWS R10s, get them. These are the favorite for practice and less formal competition. Note, though, that wad cutters start to drift once you get out to 20 yards or so, meaning a long range pellet they are not.

I usually just hang the targets directly from the clamp, but the cardboard is actually a good idea if you shoot more powerful airguns up close. When you do shoot the more powerful airguns up close, the pellets get pulverized enough to send shrapnel and dust out of the trap. I cured it hanging a section of old carpet to cover the front of the trap and hanging the targets over the carpeting. Does a decent job of keeping all the lead debris in the trap. Eventually, of course, the carpeting develops a hole, but even then, it still helps to keep the area around the trap clean. The cardboard will do the same, obviously. Will just need to be replaced more often.

I’m almost out of the Copperheads. Today I was shooting the Crosman Match Grade. I have two tins of them.

Can I use a sling? How many shots should I take per target. How do they score?
