Made it to the range. With my one of my big
Bores. And my 300 grhp shot better than the
Horn ftx. So I guess that's what I will use
This fall.

Headed for work right now, fill you in later
Have a couple more min.s
Don't know what kind of story your looking for, but here it goes. About 4 yrs.ago I was getting board with my 308-270-06' , wanted something that would put a smile on my face when I pulled the trigger. So I started looking for a belted magnum.
Nothing pretty, just something I could take to the range , and have push me around when I needed
It.
Then. I spotted a marlin guide gun ported 450M.
And fell in love with it. I asked. The dealer
If he had any ammo for it, he said No. Well I wasn't going to buy a gun I couldn't shoot.
So I went on a long search for ammo. There wasn't any to be found.
About 8 months later I spot 6 box's of ammo.
I called the gun shop that had the guide gun,
It was sold.
So I kinda gave up on the 450. And bought a H&R
45-70. With the laminated green stock.
Well don't you know about 4 months later I spot another 450M .only it doesn't have the ported Barrel.
I asked the dealer what he wants for it.
He says it just came in, and he hasn't put a price on it yet.
I told him to put my name on it , and call me when
Your ready to sell it.
To short'n. This up ,I picked it up, and sold my H&R
Now I have gone tru. The big bore bug a couple of times, and have a bunch of bullets and brass for the 45-70. So. It just makes sence to Have a 45-70
Well a short time later. I go into a shop I never been into before, and don't they have a 1895GS
On the used rack.
Yup, it came home with me. And it sits right next to my 450M.
I do wish they had the ported Barrel, to help with
The barrel jump.
I mite send the 450M out and get it ported.

Re: 45-70. on the range
thanks for taking the time to reply .... I found your insight into the use of your Marlin to be very interesting .... I've fired hundreds of cowboy level loads through ours but only a few high power (dangerous game) loads .... we hope to be able to spend a day at a range in a couple of weeks and now have over a hundred high powered rounds .... certainly don't plan to fire them all ..
.. one of the things I want to test is barrel jump .... over the years we've sent a 300 WBY Mag, a 30-06, and a 44 Mag Redhawk to Mag-na-Port http://magnaport.com/ .... we have been delighted with the results

Re: 45-70. on the range
The 450 really jumps, I had a 416 Rigby and I don't think. It jumped this much.
The 300 gr HP. Iam only pushing at 1900 fps.
The 45-70. Seems to like this setup.
When I get home , I will show you the bullets Iam Useing.

Re: 45-70. on the range
I haven't loaded any yet but have a couple of hundred Ballistic Silvertip 45 300 Grain Cann .458 Bullet http://www.midwayusa.com/product/138115 ... -box-of-50 on hand .... if I was going to use our 45-70 for deer/bear/boar hunting and wanted to use a jacketed bullet, this Nosler bullet would be the one I would use

Re: 45-70. on the range
we send them directly to Mag-na-port .... from their website : "RIFLE BARREL ACTIONS AND SHOTGUN BARRELS CAN ALSO BE SENT DIRECTLY BY AN INDIVIDUAL FOR SERVICE. Rifle barrel actions and shotgun barrels can be sent directly to us via US Mail or U.P.S. ground service. (It is not necessary to ship long guns using UPS Next Day or Federal Express unless you wish to reduce transit time." .... they want you to ship as close as possible to just the barrel .... having never sent them a lever action, I'd call them first just to make sure I package in whatever manner they require
