First shots with new .45 Colt CCH Carbine !

Post by fortyshooter » Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:22 pm

Well we did have today as the last until the hotter more humid weather moves in for next several days so did make it out to
get some shots fired out of this new Henry Carbine.
For the rear sight I just removed the ghost ring insert from my 44 Carbine and slipped in the rear sight of the new .45 Colt...just eye balled where it should be height wise.

Ammo consisted of a variety of standard .45 Colt loads such as...250 gr cast RNFP with 8.0 of Unique, 255 gr. SWC with 6.0 Red Dot,260 gr. WFN loaded with 8.8 gr. of Unique and last some Underwood 250 gr. RNFP hard cast rated at 850 FPS.

Shoot&See targets were set at 30 yds. and shooting from kneeling position. The steel field was about 40 yds. from truck in video.

From the results today the 250 gr. RNFP with the 8.0 gr. of Unique seemed to group the best with the 260 gr. WFN loaded up with 8.8 Unique coming in 2nd. Red Dot looks like it shoots better out of the revolvers. Note NICE 3 shot ragged hole with the 8 gr. Unique!

And of course the snubby .45 Colt Carbine looks like a nice truck gun! :D https://youtu.be/8b9tfbs8o8w

2nd picture is the 6 gr. of Red Dot powder.
Had a good time shooting this new Henry and no issues at all with any feeding or shooting....other than it was a bit hot today again!

Yeah...I have some other loads I would like to try. I have a 250 gr. XTP bullet loaded with 20 gr. of Alliant 2400. It is close to top for a Ruger load and had loaded those for my Ruger Alaskan. They run around 1100 FPS out that 2.5 inch barrel and don't know if they would be to hot for the Henry.
Now is the Henry action as strong as the Marlin since they are much the same?

its my understanding that Henry rifles are rated equal to today's Marlin 1895 lever actions

But how does the Henry in 45 Colt compare in strength to the 45 colt 1894 which I think would be more apples to apples ?

One could always call Henry and ask I suppose. I would think the new Henry's would be at least as strong as a 1894.

Yep looked good and what I used on the steel field! That will be the plinking load for revolvers and rifle.
8.0-9.0 might work the same.
