JEBar if you go to the end of that video I have the camera up close to the gong and it shows it hanging on the hook.

I forgot to mention that on the hang hole of the gongs I take my grinder and on an angle I relieve the top of the hole area that rest on the hook letting
it contact a small area of the hole. No grinding on the hook itself.

I have an 8" plate in AR500. It has been hit with everything from .22 Short to 45-70. Most rounds do little more than deposit some lead. The only 'craters' left behind were done by rounds approaching 4000 fps muzzle velocity. One was a 58gr .243, and the other was a 55 gr .22-250.

Well I use what I can find at Home Depot or what I might have laying around in the shop.

3/8ths gives off a better sound than the thicker 1/2 inch and it will take a lot of abuse for most pistol and pistol rifle calibers.
For high power rifles like 5.56 .308 and so on 1/2 inch AR 550 would be better.
Maybe get one of each type if you will be shooting the mentioned rifle calibers.

links and info appreciated .... I've learned a good bit .... our wants in metal gong type targets are pretty simple ....

targets that we can leave in place

ones that let you know when you hit (motion and sound)

various sizes so as to adjust the degree of difficulty

I've fired at dueling trees and round gongs of various types .... I'm interested in adding some to our family range .... I'm sure the kids and adults alike would enjoy shooting them
