Thanks! Very fortunate to have "found' the gun range. A friend of the family (he has a membership) took me there a few times last year as a guest. It is in the next county over in a small town. It is a 45 minute drive. A public range is only 15 minutes from my house but it gets crowded. This private range is never crowded. And yes great scenery. I took a few pics of that.

I'm really liking the Big Boy CCH. I can't wait to try different ammo.

Welcome to the club. I have both a 45 Colt and 45-70 in the CCH receiver. They are excellent firearms.

Thanks, brother. These are both Nikon scopes. Inline XR 3-9x40 muzzleloader scope on the 45-70, and 2-7x32 Prostaff P3 shotgun scope on the 45 Colt. Excellent scopes for these rifles, IMO.

Thanks bd. I have a Leupold FX 1 2-7x33 mm shotgun scope on my Henry BB steel .45 Colt. As you say, perfect for a lever gun.
Also, have a Weaver Classic V 1-3x20mm on my .357 BB brass. With my eyes, scopes are a big +!

Nice looking. As I mentioned in another post I've got a Marlin 1894CB long colt on layaway at Buds. I'll get it out of layaway by mid-June so will report on it's worthiness.

How do you like the Weaver?

At 51 my up close vision is changing rapidly. At distance I need corrective lenses since I was 13. I wore contacts for 30 years but now I need readers with them. I recently got glasses with progressive lenses. It helps, but the progressive needs to be higher up on the lens. Because the iron sights are gettin' blurry. I like the iron sights on this Henry. But my last range session says otherwise.

Hoping to head out to the range again today. Bringing a friend and his teenage sons. As long as my buddy can roust his youngsters outta the fart sack. Bringing more of the Black Hills ammo today as that is what the Big Boy liked last time.

Finn, I like the Weaver a lot. It's compact, light and just really helps my shooting. For ease of mounting, I'd suggest the Talley one piece integral mount from the Henry store. At $49, it's the deal. Look around for the Weaver Classic V 1-3x20mm that says "Japan" on it. These have very good glass in them. Need more info, I'm glad to help.

I'm not a fan of the 1-piece mount. Yes, it's very solid, and probably the cheapest solution. But you may not be able to get optimal mounting position for your scope, depending on the length of the scope tube, position of the turrets, hammer clearance, etc. I much prefer the flexibility of the Picatinny rail that Henry sells, with Weaver tactical 4-hole Picatinny rings. A much better option, IMO. Plus, if you ever decide to mount a red-dot or something other than a 1" scope, you will need that rail, anyway.

Had a good range session. May have cost my buddy some money in the future as his teenage son really liked the Henry. He did better at 100 yards than I did with my own rifle! That means the Black Hills Ammo is good to go for 100 yard shooting.

I rather enjoyed letting my buddies son shoot my guns. He's raising that youngster well. Looking forward to when I get my little ones to the range. For now it's a Red Ryder in the back yard. Lever guns are awesome!

Finn I know exactly what you mean about those blurry sights. When I was younger I could shoot 100 yards with open sights and get a lot of hits. I was farsighted but needed no specs.
Now at 65 the most fun for me is at the 50 yard backstop. I figure it's better to enjoy the 50 than to struggle every shot and miss anyway.
I put a peep sight on the BBS carbine and when I peer through it the aperture looks like it's egg shaped. My near vision is toast so I often wear reading glasses to shoot and the targets are a little blurry at all ranges.
Whattaya gonna do? I already scoped my .22 magnum so I want to stick with the peep on the .44. If I have to scope it, I'll just move to the 25. haha.
That was some good shooting you did, and that rifle looks great! Big fan of CCH finish on cowboy guns like these.
