I was looking at some Crosman metal targets, small ones...I guess they would not stand up to 45 Colt lead? It says pellets only, so I expect they would shatter???

They would not shatter but either a hole shot thru or badly mangled. The steel is not thick enough and of course not AR 500 type hard steel.
For centerfire handgun use 3/8ths thick AR 500 rated steel is the way to go and will last a long long time.
