Darts Anyone?

Post by markiver54 » Wed May 13, 2020 9:54 pm

During these times of stay at home recommendations, I am re-visiting an old beloved pass time.
Love to throw darts. Used to throw competitively. Lots of fun. Can enjoy practicing alone, ( kinda like shooting ), OR throw competitively, on my screen porch. Fresh air ( Covid unlikely ).
Any dart people here ?

My first duty station was Bermuda. Darts is a big deal to the Brits lots of teams and leagues there. I never joined a team but threw for fun in the base club. The command even had a board in the ward room.
Took it up again years later in Spain bought a really good quality board there. It is still in great condition 35 years later. Occasionally I get around to throwing darts and can still come close to where I am aiming. Sometimes I can manage to make a game of cricket go pretty quick.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Back in the day when I didn’t have much I had a dart board. Had a couple of buddies come over a few times a week and between the three of us we could scrape together enough for a case of beer. Then we would play cricket for hours, two competitors and the third keeping score. Winner carried over to the next match of course. Lots of cheap fun and of course we had lots of mock arguments and plenty of harassment. Good times.

I thought maybe a high top table in that pic with a bottle Makers 46 on it and a shot glass would look pretty cool.

Watched some of a pro dart tournament finals on TV a while back and those guys were incredible. Both started the games with 3 triple 20's.

Yes, it is amazing how precise one can get with enough practice.
The patch you see at the bottom right on my backboard, represents a 'Hat Trick'. Which is all three darts in the center bull. Very difficult, but have done it twice in my life.
The patch was given to me after a tornament win. It's the highest you can score on a dart board. Will probably never happen, by me, again. ;)

Loved playing darts! Like Hatchdog, a couple of friends, some beer and off we'd go! Friendly bantering back and forth, fun.
I have my old darts around here somewhere(I think!?). I'll have to look for 'em. Haven't thought of those in some time.
