Scale went south

Post by leverjc » Mon Apr 20, 2020 5:22 pm

Went to the range today with my chrono to check out some handloads in my .357 BB. I had what I thought were 3 different loads 15.5, 16, and 16.5grns of 296 with a 158grn nosler. They were all over the place on the target and velocity. Checked my Escale when I got home against my beam scale 0-.4grns difference. Live and learn.

That's a bummer. If you think you might replace it, I recommend the Frankford Arsenal 750 digital scale that I own and calibrate every time I use it. I've found it is very accurate and consistent.

.
Digital scales can give wonky readings if the batteries are about to go.

I use an old Lyman scale. Had it since I started in the late '60s'. I've weighed every charge I've made since then on it. Still accurate.
I have a set of check weights to check it each time I set up. It's slow, yes, but I don't get in a hurry. I don't trust powder measures,
sometimes accurate, sometimes not.
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.
