LGS trip this morning

Don't know how it is anywhere else, but Gary's Pawn & Gun in Columbus is rationing ammo. Probably at the West Point store also. 9mm in particular is limited to 100rds/customer, 5.56/.223 is 500. Didn't look like they'd raised prices anything tho. Stopped in this morning to get some 9mm and a couple other things. Didn't see any noticeable difference in their gun inventory on display, including a couple Henry's, which I fondled. Yeah, customers can do that at Gary's without staff assisting them, except for handguns. Ammo, powder, etc. is also stacked on the shelves like cans of soup.

Business is pretty good from what the staff told me, but not overwhelming them. Not a lot of people in there, about the same as any other Sat morn. A couple of the regulars, but no wild eyed first timers. I've seen a whole lot more folks in the shop when they have one of their sales days or during our annual 2A tax holiday in the Fall.

I was in and out in 10 minutes.

This is so true. I fondled one at the gun show a while back & later one found it's way into my paws.

No 9mm to be found around here. While picking up my new revolver several folks came in looking for 9mm but the owner replied that what he had was for customer range use only.
At the other larger gun shop in town I heard folks were lined up outside waiting to get in since only 10 customers allowed in at one time.
Most ammo stock running low. Great time to be a reloader!

I learned from the 22LR and primer shortage a few years back. I told myself never again. No primer, 22LR ammo, or 9mm shortage at my house.

Other than target shooting, what, realistically, do we need all this ammo for?
My small stash keeps me feeling very comfortable.

Depends on how much you want to shoot, and then the ability to that again next week and the next.
Or lord forbid we actual have to defend ourselves, short or long term.

Agree with Randy. I want to be able to shoot my 22 or 9mm without worrying if I can get ammo again for an extended period of time. Last time the 22 shortage came about it lasted for quite sometime. I want enough I can outlast one of those lengthy shortages.

Simply put, skill maintenance. I don't shoot nearly as much as many others, but I do shoot enough to maintain what I consider to be a comfortable skill level for me. Not much different than a musician, dancer, ball player or anyone else maintaining/improving their skills.

Trade value, for one reason. The last purchase I made was a 1000 rd box of loose Blazer Brass 9mm 115 gr (new) for $165, free shipping, three months ago. I just saw a 1000 rd box of Federal 115 gr Reman listed for $225 locally and it got snapped up instantly. When supplies dry up completely, common caliber factory stuff is better than almost anything else. Popular calibers of ammo purchased when plentiful is always a reliable investment and its shelf life is decades at least.

The only stuff left from online suppliers is oddball or hunting calibers like 38 Spl or .44 Mag.

It is also useful when selling a gun and the buyer is hesitating a little at your price. Throw in a free small box of range ammo at the last minute, watch his pupils dilate and “Click!” You can almost hear his mind switch, sale made.

I have a ton of MiniMag .22 LR as a reserve that I won’t trade, for actual centerfire use it is going to be all hand loads, until the new drought ends.

I guess I should have been more specific. Have heard on here, that 9mm is flying off the shelves the most.
To me, my 9mm is not for plinking or long range target shooting. It is a short range SD pistol, ( basically, point and shoot ).
I can understand being well stocked with range ammo in other calibers, but the couple hundred rounds of 9mm I have are plenty for me.

My son-n-law was looking for some 45acp yesterday.
Said there weren't a round to be found anywhere in town.
I told him to come by here I have some.

Back before Christmas when WW was etting rid of their HG ammo I bought a couple hundred bucks worth.
All at half price, including 700 rds. of 223 for .17Ç a rd.

Well, if that happens, I failed to mention, I have quite a stockpile of 12 ga shells, including 00 buck.
If my body can still handle the 870 that is.

I don't want to contribute to any questionable thread drift, so I'll just keep it simple. Nobody in my area is going to be going to gun shops or public ranges for the foreseeable future. I'm glad I stopped by my LGS yesterday, and that I have enough property to stay in practice.

9mm has become quite popular with all of the new pistol caliber carbines that are available. Im sure Ed will agree that shooting the Ruger PC 9 and the 40 for that matter is alot of fun. Not hard to burn up a couple hundred rounds of 9mm doing that. I believe Ed loads for it but I dont. Its not worth my time to load for it when you only save a couple cents a round. So I buy mine in bulk quanity. To each there own but I like plinkin with the PC Carbines.
