bolt lube

On the top of my Big Boy 45 bolt you can see in the warn bluing where the bolt rubs when working the action. When I oil this section of the bolt you can feel the action move with very little resistance. (Not much anytime but smoother is always nice.)

Has anyone had luck with a lube that will stay in place for a long period of time?

I'm getting the same thing on my BB45C too. The bolt is getting polished and shiny. It was freaking me out for a while but now I just keep it lubed with a shot of Rem Oil every now and then and just accept it. The action is smooth as butter before and even better after a shot of oil as you mentioned.

we take good care of them but with the passage of time and use, every firearm we own earns nicks, dings, scratches, wear marks and such .... if they stay in out of the box condition, we aren't using them and they usually don't stay around very long .... a hand print worn on the bottom of the receiver, in front of the trigger guard on my grandfather's early generation Model 94 30-30 where the blueing has worn down to bare metal is an extreme example of a use mark that is priceless to us .... so long as they deliver top reliability and operation, I try not to sweat the small stuff

Yup. Maybe one day years from now somebody will look at our rifles and wonder what story they'd tell. Hopefully it's some good ones.

My Big Boy's bolt has a shiny streak along the inside of the ejection port, but the action is very, very smooth, so I just think of it as some added character!

I know some people like Froglube but I'm not a fan of it for lubrication. I use Remoil for slow moving parts and grease for fast moving parts like in semi-autos.

Wear points in bluing do add character to a rifle. Some times it seems like I pick up too much character on my guns.
