Quick test of ghost ring sight insert for Henry BB

Post by fortyshooter » Sat Feb 22, 2020 6:06 pm

Made a run down to the range to test out this new .150 dia. hole insert for the rear sight on my .357 Henry BB.
After a couple of windage and elevation adjustments I got it where I wanted. Seems to work better than the stock V notch when
you want to easily see your front sight bead in relation to target.

Target shot from 25 yds. standing I wore a nice hole just off to left and then adjusted the windage a bit to help center it in the red.
Took a shot or two and called it good! Then moved on to just plinking cans and that 3 inch steel target from about 25-30 yds.
I like the results! https://youtu.be/jPYte2JoHdI Hope the video is clear enough!

Really don't want to add a custom receiver mounted sight unless the mount is color case hardened to match.

Love those 180 gr. Pug loads!!!

Great idea I think. Kinda hard to see the targets. Any chance you could move the camera closer 40?

Guess I should have zoomed it in a bit! Is the video a bit blurry? Don't know whats up with youtube?
Seems like my Ipad is only good for 240p at best plus that sun is always playing with the images. Have to start using the GoPro again I guess.

I read your comments about the sight matchin the receiver of the Henry. Couldnt agree more. Ive looked at the Ranger points several times and just want to keep using the irons as long as I can.

A lot of the aesthetics issues are helped by using the Lo Pro receiver sight. Very unobtrusive. And available in several finishes.

Well if you go with a steel sight base it could have the CCH treatment done to it.
When I was working in the tool and die field I did a lot of heat treating of parts and used to get those case hardening colors on parts.

Anyway...the Henry was shooting well today and will leave that sight insert in place.

I just looked at that sight and according to the .275 height from center of sight hole to base at bottomed out position it should barely work with stock front sight. I get .400 from my center to base on the rear sight at current zero and when you figure height difference of receiver step up that's about .015 to play with using the LoPro.
However being able to easily tap the front sight around might be something else as it is tight...have tried to move it one time.
