New Henry X Models

Hey All,

I'm not afraid to take a look at em. If they are lightweight bad weather hunt capable I could see some potential... Even though I way prefer wood.

I have a beat up 336 Texan ready to be picked up. I've been contemplating tunRning it into a black lever rifle for my DIL in Texas.
Ebonize the stock, add a RPP feather weight ammo gate, forestock ammo holder. Change out the rear sight to a Skinner or RPP reciever sight. Put one of what ever those metal shrouds over the forestock. Add a med loop lever.

I am a very small minority, but I quite like it. I have been considering an AW .44 Mag for RV camping in grizzly bear county. I don’t hunt and other usage would be minimal, maybe some banging away at the range, nor do I plan to hang it on a wall. I would carry it locked in my RV closet in a police style gun rack.

The intermediate 17.5” barrel length works, I think 20” is too long and the AW isn’t available in a 16”. It will be bumped around a lot so the stock is better than wood. I would be delighted to hang my light under the forend. The sidegate is a big plus, and I am sure it will be the new fast twist barrel so I can shoot 305 gr bear loads. It comes with a scope rail too....

As someone pointed out, it will be dandy at home with .44 Spl loads. And it is legal to carry into Canada, eh!

I am confused because it seems to indicate a brass receiver?

I can live with the look, for my needs it checks pretty much all the boxes. I am not sure that I would ever hang anything off the threaded barrel tho .... I am eager to look at one in person.

I hope Henry does well with the X Models .... it appears to me that they are trying to expand their market and if they can, I believe that would be a good thing .... that being said, its a line I have no interest in purchasing

I just ran a search on this model (.357/.38 H012MX) and found a few more on-line retailers that are advertising it. One listed it at $699.

They all have threaded muzzles. That means they won't be sold or permitted in CA and a few other States.

I kind of dig it. When I bought mine I knew I wanted a Brass and wood model but .. with Mag limits becoming more common and a host of other nonsensical things being demonized a home defense lever action makes sense. 8-10 rounds of .357 from a long barrel would be a formidable tool and with all plastic furniture .. you dont have to baby it. For the tactical guys .. all that black will help you blend into the darkness and all!!

No glint off my shiny brass.

Having said all that .. I dont see anything especially more attractive about it or anything that makes it more capable except for possibly the side gate so it would have to come in a bit cheaper than my Brass .357 for it to be attractive to me.

But .. A light fast do it all lever is a nice addition. At about $600 I might add another caliber. Its like my revolvers .. I have rugers and smiths .. I have room in my heart for both!!

Never thought I would see the day lever rifles go to black tactical looking rifles. That is what the new Gen buyers want. Can't make myself go down the tactical road.

then for some God forsaken reason got got to find the uglyest stock they can find to put on them. Why??

Just like the previous sidegates, they couldn't put a normal stock on it, Nope.
Had to have all that extra BS all carved into it.
You know it's a Henry, no need to carve it BIG as daylights all down the side.
Guess I won't be buying one of those either.

Even assuming that Mossberg was available in a pistol Caliber I could not stomach it. The new Henry X is fine, it isn't over the top IMHO. The dimensions and profile are great. They remind me a WHOLE lot of my long gone Marlin 1895 STP .45/70.

Not a fan...sorry Henry. Marlin's doing it too, with their "Dark" series on the 336, and the 1895. The picatinny rail on the Marlin looks like it's about 16" long. eww. The Marlins do look pretty handy though, with that 16" barrel and ~34" overall length.

Henry posted a nifty pic on their Facebook page - it has a silencer on it.. There are a number of yuck statements from the purists, but a lot of positive ones too. I like it.

I do think the silencer capability is a little silly considering the lever action is an inherently noisy sucker but guess it doesn't really cost much to add and may appeal to the tactical guys.

I understand all the 'not me, no way, no how'.
However, it will gain some loyalty from those who want a 'traditional ' rifle. It will still perform the desired function.
