Ok, here is the 'real' me - winch cable in hand!
The Forest Circus eventually came and filled this hole. I think it was inhibiting their abilities to use the road as well.

If I recall I was able to hang onto the door frame and step up on the 'bank' and avoid the 'pit' !

It seems I did get wet getting back in!
