.360 Single Shot

Post by 5shot » Sat Jul 12, 2025 1:06 am

I got my parts order from Henry today and decided to mount my scope and a hammer extension. The EGW/Henry picatinny rail required drifting the rear sight out for clearance. That was an easy process with the "Wyoming Sight Drifter". I had a Ranger Point dovetail filler blank on hand but it was a loose fit and they recommend using red loctite to secure it. I'll leave it empty for now and get a Marbles blank instead.

Next was the EGW pic base. The screws and screw holes were cleaned and a little dab of Coleman gas on each to remove the oil film. I set the base in place and went to tighten the first screw..... :x ....bottomed out and base was still loose. All three were too long or holes in barrel were too shallow. Called customer service and politely explained and he knew all about the problem. They are sending a new mount with the correct length screws.

I was going to put the project on the back burner until the Henry package arrived but got to thinking....What would Bubba do? So, out comes the Dremel. I removed About .025" from each one and checked each one out and they worked. Just for insurance I polished a little more from each screw and used a little blue loctite on them.

I mounted the Leupold 2X-7X VX Freedom in medium Warne rings and a GrovTec single sided hammer extension without any further issues.

It is hard to set a job to the side for a week waiting for a part when there is a possibility of making do with what you have. Did that yesterday myself on my new garage door.
Congratulations on your fix.

Nice job Bubba. Did the same thing myself earlier this week. Needed to add a toll transponder to the front plate on the motorhome. The screws in place were too short for the transponder and I didn’t have any on hand long enough with the diameter of the plate bracket. I did have some long enough but too large of diameter so I simply drilled out the bracket and bingo!

Now, back to that Single Shot. Did you send some lead down range yet? Excellent scope choice!

Hatchdog. I just got 50 rounds loaded tonight so maybe early next week for the sighting in and test drive.

I looked in my e-mail this morning and see that I have a package coming from Henry. It contains six screws, a Henry cap, Henry coffee mug and a Henry keychain. :D Obviously being polite paid off. Or...maybe after I told him how many Henry's I already owned he figured it was money well spent to buy back my love.

I saw a BH at the one local WW yesterday, a BBS model, I want to say $779.99.
I immediately turned around and looked at the ammo behind the counter, and right, NO ammo.
Good looking rifle though. I have plenty of straight walled calibers. ;)

I got it sighted in and it's a nice shooting gun at 50 yards. I settled on a load for this single and for the X-model for deer hunting. The starting load in Hodgdon's manual for CFE-BLK is 34 grains. The five shot average in the single shot is 2224 fps and the X-model clocks 2146 average with the same load. I don't see any need to bump that up any higher. That's a bit more horsepower than a .35 Remington which has been working just fine for a century or so.

Edit to add....the above numbers are with 200 gr. Hornady RN's.
