First outing .22wmr Frontier

Post by GunnyGene » Sat Sep 28, 2024 3:27 pm

Ok, color me impressed. :D This is 10 rounds straight from the box at about 15yds+/- (paces actually, but I know my backyard pretty well). It shot a little left, which just eyeballing the factory buckhorn I suspected it might. Didn't look quite centered on the bore, but I let it go just to see what I could see, which isn't much with the poor vision in my shooting eye but whatever. Ammo was some old Browning 40grn jhp. Fired a couple rounds off target just to get some fouling in the bore, then 10rnds seated behind the card table I use as a bench. No other support, just my elbow. POA was at the bottom of the bull. 1.5" dia. bullseye for reference.

All that said, I'm going to have to get a scope for anything farther out.

10rnds fired on target. I'll tap the buckhorn next time out.

Very good using the buckhorn sights!

I have a 3 X 9 variable scope on my Frontier .22 Mag and it shoots very well with the CCI 40 gr. HP Maxi-Mags.

Yeah, I'd be very pleased, too. That shows som real potential, right out of the box. I'd scope it, too.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.

I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on a scope for this, so I've been considering a Walmart special. They have a Barska 3-9x 32 for about $40 that looks ok, but I have no experience with Barska scopes so I'd value your opinion. :)

Im not sure how many years ago but about 8 years ago I was bidding on a gun in Washington and happened to be going there to see my sister. Marlin 39A. It had this scope on it which i didnt want to leave on it as I wanted to shoot irons. The scope is a Bushnell 3x9x32. Rings are with it and will mount right on a Henry. If you want it its yours. I have no use for it. It looks like new and has been sitting in a drawer since I took it off. I have not even used it and probably never will.

Very nice offer Al.

My (former) 22wmr which was a Ruger American bolt really liked the Winchester SuperX hollow point. I did an ammo test with CCI, Hornady, the Winchester and a few others. A close second was the CCI maxi mag.

That’s an impressive group!
