You did get good looking wood. Lots of interesting grain pattern. Did you get the rotary or box magazine?

I really like that stock! Mine is stainless with a synthetic stock. Maybe one day I'll get a different stock for it. I really need to get a different stock for the Remington 700 .243 first. I hope she enjoys it.

Re: Wife's new ruger 10/22
thanks all:
i have a synthetic stainless as well but its with my oldest up in n missouri, i almost bought a standard 10/22 for wife, this is her first rifle, but i saw a pic of this one and the stock sold me. and it is so much better in person than in pics,
hoping tommorrow to find enough time to clean her up and get some good wax on the stock, then be to afraid to take it to the range

Beautiful. I've been eyeing those since they appeared on Ruger's site. I much prefer the sporter stocks on the 10/22s to the standard ones with the barrel bands, and that is the nicest of the current sporter stocks. Congrats.
Re: Wife's new ruger 10/22
The Ruger .22LR rotary mags are some of the best in the business. I have never had an issue with one, and wish all magazines functioned that well. I have had aftermarket 25 and 30 round magazines with mixed (mostly negative) results. The magazines that came with my Remington 597 are horrible in comparison, and are likely accountable for 75% of that gun's bad reputation.Mags wrote:let us know how that rotary mag works out. That said...I prefer the black ones to the clear ones from Ruger. I have both, and have never had an issue, but the plastic on the clear ones doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the material that the black ones are made of. Just my 2 cents...

Congrats. You hit a home run on that wood. One of the best I've sen on a Ruger 10/22.
As roddy mentions, I've never had an issue with the standard 10 shot 10/22 magazine, over the years. That rotary magazine was one of the features that has made the 10/22 so popular. The extended mags have been less reliable for me, though the 15 shot Ruger mag has done well in a Charger.

Re: Wife's new ruger 10/22
congrats indeed .... we have 3 10/22's (2 since the late '80's) .... all are solid performers .... if I was in the market for a semi automatic 22LR, a 10/22 is the only one I'd consider
Re: Wife's new ruger 10/22
The clear one is probably made from acrylic - clear, strong, but a bit on the brittle side. Black is more than likely made from ABS which is stronger when it comes to physical impact. It will also have a little bit of a heavier 'feel'.roddy wrote: but the plastic on the clear ones doesn't seem to be of the same quality as the material that the black ones are made of.

Nice rifle for your wife.
As for the Remmie 597M, I too had probs for several years until I got a Volquartsen extractor installed into it. Along with the original black plastic magazines which work better then the metal ones, I now have a great little rifle. Too bad Remington couldn't fix those problems before they discontinued it.
