336 SC 35 Remington

I have a local guy here bugging me to sell him my 1960 Marlin 336 SC. He needs to add a 35 to his collection and he said mine is the nicest SC he has found yet. I have traded off and sold a few SC's in the past and regretted leaving some of the really nice ones go so I am hesitating to make the deal with him. He is in my state but I still want to do a dealer transfer because he is not a close enough friend to know his history. I know he can buy guns from dealers but I still want to transfer this one if I decide to sell it. Also lately folks are wanting to buy my 39A Marlins. I told the last guy who was asking about the 39's to make me an offer for all of them together. He definitely can afford them. He said he will get back to me soon. The wife says no selling 39's.
This is the SC with a Leupold 1-4x20 scope and he offered $750 for it the way it is in the picture.

I think it comes down to whether you need to sell them or not, bandit. If you're not using them, and you think the money could be put to better use, then I always think it's OK to sell a rifle, but ......... I also know that I have done it and regretted it too.

If you really don't need to sell them, then I think that would be my answer.

Bandit, keep in mind that some of the less common JM Marlins, like the SC, are appreciating in value and ALL those early 39s are going through the roof in price, thanks to Remington's continual stumbling with the 39. The 39 isn't even on their Marlin/Remington website, now. Really, think twice about selling those 39s because you won't get them back at the same price in a couple of years, should you decide you made a mistake. Like the Winchester 94/22, those JM Marlin 39s are hot right now.

The 39A Marlins have always been the most common version of the 39, by far, with the less common and rare versions going for the higher prices. Even the 39A, though, is now climbing in price. I've had a couple of good ones I let go a couple of years, back, and I'm now kicking myself.

He made an offer that is really a fair offer that goes both ways as far as me getting good money and he can stop trying to chase down one that he has been looking for several years and so far never found one he is willing to lay the money out for. The SC's do bring more than a RC model and the 35 adds to the price over a 30-30 with a 32 Special SC adding some more dollars to the price. I think less the scope and mounts he would be at about $550 for the gun and I am seeing SC's at shows that they are asking $500+ for ones that are not as nice as this '60 year SC and are usually missing the front sight hood or the rear sight. The round front hood is bringing over $40 now alone. I have time to think about it for a while. I am going to take plenty of time to think about the offer on the 39A collection. The wife is standing her ground on not selling any 39A's or any of the other variations of the 39A rifles we have now. So I guess I could sell mine and shoot hers.
