357 BB first shots
I shot my BB 357 rifle for the first time today. I shot 3 shot groups off bags at 25 yds. to check the sights. Using Federal factory JSP the first group at 25 yds. was .933 and dead center. The next two were .787 and .545 I was really surprised that it hit dead center and grouped so good. This was with the Buckhorn sight which is a challenge with my 72 yr. old eyes. Very pleased with the results. I also shot 13 shots offhand at an 8" gong at 50 yds. and hit it every time. They appeared to be in a 3" group. I am off to buy reloading supplies now. This rifle is "deer ready" out of the box.

You are a lucky man, Tom - first because you picked out a great Henry rifle and second because you have a good set of eyes to shoot it with the buckhorn sights - congratulations.

That's great shooting -- no question.Tom Brush wrote:I shot my BB 357 rifle for the first time today. I shot 3 shot groups off bags at 25 yds. to check the sights. I have a couple of questions:
1. Indoor or outdoor range?
2. If indoor, how was the lighting at the booth? Specifically, the lighting on your sights?
Re: 357 BB first shots
Welcome from the Show-Me-State, and congrats on your first range time with your Henry .357. Great shooting!
What model of the Big Boy do you have?
Whichever one, it is a great caliber to shoot!
Enjoy.

I have my own outside range. It was very overcast with snow on the ground. The target was one of the WalMart 5 diamond sight in targets. The center and lower diamonds were semi clear. I could not see the top two due to lighting conditions. All three groups were two in one hole and one slightly out. I noticed while shooting that I had trouble lining up the buckhorn horizontally. I am over 70 but still have 20/20 vision. My rifle is the BB Classic with the 20" barrel.

Re: 357 BB first shots
The scope mount arrived today. I installed it and a Weaver K3 scope. Using my reloads with H110 and 158 Hornady XTP it shot into .316, .232 and .495 at 25 yds. At 60 yds. it shot .949, .841,.742 and 1.907 (lost one shot. Group was 2 in one hole and one way off.) Three at 100 yds. went into 2.612 with Federal 158 gr. factory. At 100 yds. it was almost impossible to see the light red diamonds on the target. The K3 is a nice old scope but for 100 yds. I would need more scope. This rifle continues to impress me.
