Guy had a 41 Magnum Blackhawk at the range

Post by ditto1958 » Sun Feb 05, 2017 10:38 pm

I may need to rethink which Henry I need to get next. A guy at the range today had a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 magnum. What a thumper that thing is. I'm almost tempted to get one myself, as well as a 41 magnum Big Boy.

I once owned a 41 mag and as you note, its most certainly a thumper .... at that time I had both a 41 and 44, for me the 44 Mag won out .... don't know how it is now but back then, there was a much wider range of reloading components available

ditto, have you ever enjoyed seeing a nice a gun without thinking, "I've got to have one of those!"? :D

I would be wary of you on the beach surrounded by blondes, brunettes, and red heads

BTW, the .41 has kind of "peaked" my interest as well, very interesting caliber.............

I have Blackhawk in 4 5/8 barrel. Very accurate gun and I also have the Steel in 41. Im waiting for next month as the brass carbine will be out and I have one on order. 41 is my favorite round and there is more avaliable if you reload now for the 41. Both Berrys and Xtreme carry copper plated bullets for it. I see Rainer offers a round nose flat point as well. All of the cast bullet people also carry cast lead bullets coated or otherwise if you shoot cast. Brass is not hard to come by either. Al

I love the .41mag. Been reloading it since the early 70's. Haven't messed with it much in recent years. The Henry may get me back in the game.

Have been tempted by the 41 mag many times, but the 44 mag always won out and I just didn't want another cartridge to reload and, trust me, you better reload if you want to shoot the 41 mag. Way expensive as a factory ammo round and not easy to find.

Nope. I guess I'm kinda like a kid in a candy store. Still, there are some guns that show up at the range that, while they are "high quality" guns, they just don't float my boat.

My "need" list, however keeps getting longer. :)

The "problem" with it, as I understand it, is that it's between .357 magnum and .44 magnum. Kinda stuck in the middle, like .40 is between 9mm and .45 acp.

I get the reload with the 41. Im just one of those guys that likes the different. 41 isnt common. 357 and 44 mag everyone has one. I have a 44 mag I dont shoot it much because when I want a big boomer I grab the 475 linebaugh. When you let go with the trigger on the 475 it lets you know something big went down range. Its a personal thing I guess. The 41 is fun to shoot not the recoil of the 44 but more punch than a 357. Al

But unlike the 40 S&W, the 41 magnum is superior to both the 357mag and the .429 magnum. It will anything the .429 will and do it with less recoil and flatter trajectory. I own (3) 41 MAGNUMS. A 3 screw 4 5/8" blackhawk, a 4" Taurus Titanium tracker, and a 7.5" ruger redhawk. They are all accurate and shoot better than I can hold them. I get 1600fps with a 210gr Hornady XTP, and get 2" groups at 100yds with my redhawk.

Okay, guys, stop tempting me with this 41 magnum stuff. I have a very low resistance to the "add another gun" bug. :)

Actually, have fallen in love with the 45 Colt, the last couple of years, only recently trying it because I've always gone ".429 magnum" and the 45 Colt is a true 45.

I have the Super Blackhawk Hunter ( Bisley ) in the 41mag. as well as the BBS . Both are very accurate with my reloads, more than the 44mag-especially in the rifle. I guess it's the 1-20 ROT in the BBS. Lastly, the recoil isn't unpleasant in the SBH with full power loads either. The stats are pretty much the same with the 240gr.in the 44mag. and the 210gr. in the 41mag., all things being equal. I have both calibers in Ruger pistols and the 41 is more funner to shoot.

NCG were gonna keep pushin on ya till ya cave and get one. I bet if you were to grab a 41 you would immediately fall in love with the accuracy and the punch. Its a fun caliber and deserves more attention. You need one. Al

Yup. You NEED a 41 magnum Blackhawk. And a Henry BB to go with it.

I think NCG is avoiding this thread because she knows she wants a 41 mag.

Avoid you guys! Never! Cowboys and cowgirls have to stick together. Single actions and lever guns to the end. Oh, I've flirted with those other kinds of guns, now and then, but I always return to the guns I love the most. My first rifle was a lever gun and my first handgun was a single action and they'll be my last if I have anything to say about it. In fact, just picked up some new ones and will share with everyone, once the weather allows me to get out and put them to a good test.
