"The classic Colt Single Action Army (Peacemaker) in .38-40 caliber does not have a transfer bar safety; it relies on a half-cock notch and requires the hammer to rest on an empty chamber for safe carrying.
However, Colt introduced the Colt Cowboy in 1999, a more affordable variant of the Single Action Army that does feature a modern transfer bar safety, allowing it to be carried with the hammer on a loaded chamber. Additionally, many modern clones of the Single Action Army, such as those by Uberti and Traditions, offer versions with transfer bars or alternative safety mechanisms like floating firing pins to enable six-round carry.
