I live alone, too, and falling is a concern. My spine isn't what it used to be and I've lost my balance more than once. I've just agreed to move into an adult community where I don't have to cook (if I don't want to) or clean or care for the property. It's going to be a sea-change for me, but being alone just isn't safe anymore.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
I’m adding on 1,380 square feet onto the first floor so I don’t have to do stairs. I love this place but it’s not for old people. It will be nice to have an ensuite ADA bathroom and laundry room. Plus I’ll have a 24x17 foot living room. That way I can live here and have a live-in caretaker and each of us have our own living space. The only thing we would share is the kitchen.CT_Shooter wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 9:35 amGlad you can post about it. Could have been very different.

82 (RealFeel 91) is as high as they say our temp will get today .... threatening heavy cloud cover has generated a few light sprinkles .... they say, "thundershowers in parts of the area this morning followed by a couple of heavy thunderstorms this afternoon; there can be ponding on roadways" .... we are back home from one of Maureen's physical therapy appointments .... nothing else on tap that will take us away from home today

80 (RealFeel 92) @ 10:45AM under a heavy overcast .... anticipated high 85 followed by an overnight low of 72 .... morning and afternoon mentions of high thunderstorms .... per weather radar, no threat anywhere to be seen .... just got back from Maureen having a one week appointment to check on her adjustment to wearing hearing aids .... all's good on that front .... nothing much on tap for the rest of today
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
60' and smokey this morning. Unlikely to see the predicted 100' due to smoke, but could still make it to 96'.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
50 this morning with smoky skies. The smoke must be in the upper atmosphere as I can’t smell it much. 80’s for today and tomorrow with 90’s after than. Light winds until Friday when 20+ gusts are expected. With the local fires still a danger the winds are not welcomed.
I had my hernia surgery yesterday and all is great. Procedure went fine but they did discover a small opening in the muscle on the opposite side (not uncommon) so while they were repairing the left side they threw a tire patch on the right side too.
Nice to not have to go back in a year or two and do it again. A little discomfort but no pain as long as I’m taking my meds. In the middle of the night when the pain med wore off I had some pain which confirmed taking my meds is important.

65 F in Ventura CA by the coast. Highs in the mid 70s. It should stay this way for the foreseeable time.
I'd say, peak summer is over for this part of the coastal stretch. It's mainly due to the thick & sustained morning fog.
Even through mid-day considerable haze gives us cover. Peak temperatures are within a couple of hours late afternoon.
None of this applies to inland regions. They will easily enjoy 10 degrees higher temps, on average.

That's something I've been thinking might be necessary too but not likely I could take my 2 cats so will stay on my place as long as possible. No new kittens for me, they would very likely outlive me. My youngest is only 6 so she could also outlive me.CT_Shooter wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2026 9:35 amGlad you can post about it. The place I've selected to live is pricey, but I'm lucky enough that I can afford it. It's close to my current home and pets are welcome or I wouldn't have considered it, either. Love my cat.

Hope your surgery goes well and recovery is quick. I don't know how they do hernia surgery now but back in the day it took several weeks to heal. Good luck.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 9:33 amMy thermometer here at home shows 47 but the official Deer Park temp at the airport three miles away is 38. That’s great for the firefighters fighting the destructive fires here (see my Spokane Fires post). High today is expected to be 80 but with the heavy smoke blocking the sun probably not. Getting hot again later this week with temps in the mid 90’s. Boooo.
Tomorrow in my hernia repair surgery so today I’ll be getting little jobs done that might be a problem durning recovery.

Thankfully these days it’s pretty simple. Mine was laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon made three small incisions in my belly and did the complete surgery via them. Pretty incredible. Mine was outpatient arriving at 7:00 and back home by 2:30. The belly incisions have dissolvable sutures and are covered with a waterproof coating which allows me to shower. Even my follow up will be via phone. We’ve come a long ways in the medical world for sure. My level of pain/discomfort is very low as long as I take my meds.Ernie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2026 6:23 pmHope your surgery goes well and recovery is quick. 53 this morning with a very heave smoke layer mostly blocking the sun. It’s supposed to warm up to the 90’s today but with the smoke probably not. Tomorrow brings gusty winds again and Saturday is another Fire Watch day with wind gusts to 25, very low humidity and temps in the mid 90’s. This is the third Saturday in a row with a fire warning of some sort. The “watch” level this week is two steps lower than last Saturday’s warning so that’s a positive. It was last Saturday the the big fires burning here started.
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Never got out of the mid 80's yesterday.
59' and still smokey this morning. Maybe, maybe not 94' later.
