It’s 8F with 35 mph winds. With the recent snow it’s a ground blizzard. Up to 6 inches forecast for tomorrow. Just another typical winter day in Wisconsin.
I always heard that SD blows and Wisconsin sucks so the wind is worse in Minnesnowda, but you always seem to have colder nastier weather than we do just a couple hundred miles west of you. Lucky you I guess.
I think it’s because of the elevation. There is about a ten square mile plateau that is 400 feet higher than the other areas. Even five miles away and lower the weather is different. It’s much windier and we receive more snow here. Although cold sinks and if the wind isn’t blowing it’s colder lower.

Yes, I think that's probably why. Our elevation is around 1100 feet. You must live in the area that the glaciers missed and didn't get flattened.
We live on a hill about 100 feet above the lake. In front of the house is usually warmer that out back and down by the lake is even colder. That's when the wind is not blowing. Cold does sink.

Mostly Cloudy, 12°F, Humidity 79%
Wind Speed S 8 mph
Barometer 29.94 in
Dewpoint 7°F
Visibility 10.00 mi
Cloudy, with a high near 30.
South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Snow and freezing rain likely before 3pm.
Little or no ice accumulation expected.
Slow day so I think I'll make a pot of my Mother's Vegetable Beef Soup. I start with a beef
soup bone and gradually add veggies. Lots of tomatoes, potatoes, onions, peppers, and cabbage.
I love it!

29 and a pea soup fog out there according to the weather guy. Too dark to know for sure. Maybe the mid 30’s later but the fog will keep the temp on the cool side. I’m driving my wife into Spokane for a dentist appt and then back again this afternoon for a doc appt. So we will be able to enjoy the fog all day.

Finished my outdoor burning yesterday. It took me five days to get it done. It’s amazing how the dozen or more large piles of limbs reduced down into this pile of ash. The pile will shrink (settle) even more in the next few days. Between me and Ma nature we sure put a dent in the snow.

We got 8 - 10 inches of snow yesterday and last night. I was out al 6:00am blowing clear my drive way and the street out to the intersection. Made my 7:45 doctors appointment to find the office closed. They had sent me texts and email for the last 3 days to confirm my appointment and make sure I would be there but did not notify me or the other 2 people that were there that the office would not be open. They did send a recorded message at 9:00 that my appointment was canceled and they were opening at 9:30 and would reschedule me within 2 days for another appointment.

1:30PM on Jan 15 .... 38 very windy degrees under a clear Carolina Blue Sky .... they predict that it will get up to 40 for a high today before dropping back to an overnight low of 20 .... yesterday we spent most of the day riding from home to Asheville in western NC and back .... today, no plans to so much as crank a vehicle ....

The Driftless Area is further south. The ground here is layered clay and sand/gravel with big boulders mixed in. Most of what is here was brought here from Canada by glaciers.

Currently 22F after a low of 12 and an inch of new snow. Brandy is ready to go play in the snow.

In three days the low will be -14F and the high will be -6. I love the annual ice age.
