Beauty and the beast. You never know what that little funny looking spot in the foliage may be up close.

Re: Clovis' 2025 images
An ambush bug. I have posted images of them before. They look like something out of an LSD induced nightmare. Fortunately, they are very small.
Here are a pair that shows them more clearly. The male is actually exhibiting protective behavior here, even though it looks like something else.

Sentient creatures like the Ambush Bug -- and the myriad others (both seen and unseen) that are very literally everywhere around us and, like us, see and hear and feel and taste and smell everything from their position at the absolute center of the universe -- are such a thrill to discover, like you did with these two strange animals. Great photo. Thanks.

Re: Clovis' 2025 images
Went back to Cypress and got some more hummingbird photos before they migrate.
Managed to get a few adult males with their full red gorget. Discovered that since these feathers are iridescent, they are only that bright red when the light hits them from just the right angle.
I was hoping I caught these two fighting. I did, but unfortunately, my camera wasn't able to focus track them fast enough.

Thanks. I have always enjoyed this perspective. Used to carry a magnifying glass as a kid and no....it wasn't for burning ants.

Excellent photos capturing the crisp, clear, sharp, stop action in-focus and gorgeous color of these amazing birds. Thanks.

Re: Clovis' 2025 images
The Pup and I drove up to the Columbia Zoo and spent a chunk of the day taking pictures. I think this is the best batch of zoo pics I've had. I still have a bunch more to edit. It was full sun all day, which brings it's own set of issues, but it did result in some dramatic lighting in the flamingo enclosure. I think my time at the gym doing upper body strength training is paying off. I swear I was able to hold the long lens and the new, heavier, camera steadier and for noticeably longer than I used to. I got down to lower handheld shutter speeds and still managed to keep most of them sharp.

Thanks to that remarkable scientist, Jane Goodall, for showing us how similar these creatures are to each of us, especially the primates. She changed so much about how we relate to other animals. I'm grateful.

Re: Clovis' 2025 images
After I posted these, I got the idea of converting the monkey shot to B&W. I think I really like this one in B&W. I may try fine tuning some of the blacks tomorrow. I'm pretty tired right now, and the onboard computer is not performing up to specs.

Love the hummingbird pics, the snake, and the over the shoulder glance from the Gorilla. Great shots as usual.
Keep them coming.
Keep them coming.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.
I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

Re: Clovis' 2025 images
The Pup and I went to Magnolia again today. Not a lot of action, but got a few images.
Cardinals are everywhere around here, so I tend to ignore them. The light and soft color of the foliage attracted my attention for this one.
This snowy egret was a little nervous at me being so close, but with a little patience and stealth, I managed to creep up close enough to get above the foliage on the bank. They are normally not so cooperative.
SAFE!
Sam the Eagle made an appearance. I guess the Muppet Show was taking a break.

The Pup and I made it back to the zoo yesterday.
Got a shot of this guy. He was captured on the front glass of a Toyota pickup.
It's a windshield viper.
