Range Report: new 410 Henry
After inspecting my new shotgun I shot it at 35 yards with elbows on the table. All three shots hit about three feet high. The rear sight is on the lowest setting.
I think it needs a taller front sight.

Have you tried that same shot with the Mare's Leg? Yeah that is a bunch high! Can you lower the rear sight notch insert?

No on the M’sL and no on lowering the rear sight. I’m going to shoot the M’sL this evening when it cooled down.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 8:58 amHave you tried that same shot with the Mare's Leg? Yeah that is a bunch high! Can you lower the rear sight notch insert?

It Sounds like it's time for an extra, extra tall front sight. Take her to the range, sandbag it, and file it down for a 6 o'clock hold. If that doesn't work, remove the rear site put a blank in it, and shoot it like a shotgun . . .

Wouldn't raising the rear sight be the answer

I don’t think shooting slugs like a shotgun would be very accurate. I’m better off getting the correct front sight and doing it right.

Re: Range Report: new 410 Henry
Gene, roughly 3 feet high at 35 is pretty bad. That far off would require a front sight so tall as to look a bit goofy. Generally, that far off on a new gun would have me calling the manufacturer. Before you call Henry, though, I would bench the gun on a bag and determine exactly how high it is shooting, starting at 10 yards to stay on paper, then out to 25 yards or so. I would also shoot some other loads if you have some. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
And I agree that using point and shoot wouldn't be too accurate and you shouldn't have to settle for that with a new gun, anyway.

Re: Range Report: new 410 Henry
Problem solved. I made sure the ramp was all the way down.
But didn’t check the diamond insert.
Once I lowered it I had plenty of room for adjusting the ramp. I haven’t shot it after making the adjustment.
I’m not liking the buckhorn as it’s a moose. Chances are I’ll swap it for something smaller and more suited for slugs and shot.
