A 3rd Henry

update :

we took advantage of a beautiful day in the neighborhood to spend about 5 hours at a friend's shooting range with our 8 year old grandson and his Henry 357 .... during that time Jacob fired about 75 rounds of a target load that we wanted to test in his Henry .... Missouri Bullet Company 158 Grain SWC - Grooveless http://missouribullet.com/details.php?p ... &keywords=, pushed by 6.5 gr Bullseye, ignited by a standard small pistol primer .... the bottom line is, as can be seen below, its a keeper .... Jacob hit the bottle cap off of a plastic Gatorade bottle at 25 yards .... he went on to routinely bust skeet at 50 yards .... yep, a good day in the neighborhood ..

kind words appreciated .... he was over 10 lbs when he was born and at every age has always been off the charts for height .... as such his coordination hasn't caught up with his size .... when it comes to athletics, he can run all day but things that require good reflexes his overall development has a ways to go .... he will listen and he really wants to do well in shooting .... out of the 70 some rounds he fired today, none were more than a couple of inches off .... we have two sons, Jacob's father is our youngest .... Jacob really looks up to our oldest son, his uncle, was with us today and Jacob made every step with him .... building family memories is what its all about ..

with winter and with us spending over 2 months in Texas, its been a while since I had an opportunity to take our grandson back out on the range .... he's on spring break this week and today was our day to get back out there .... we decided to take his father's 10-22 and his BBS 357 .... we didn't take any paper targets, rather a collection of empty milk jugs and an assortment of other empty bottles which he took back home to show his mother ..

.. one of my goals for today was to introduce him to off hand shooting .... considering that the stocks of both are a bit long for him and both are pretty heavy for him, he did well .... I didn't keep count but I'd guess he fired a couple of hundred 22 LR's and well over 50 357's .... all in all, it was a really good day

UPDATE :

its been a great day ..

.. spending a day on the range with our 9 (soon to be 10) year old grandson most certainly has made it a great day .... having made his own target, we took it to one of our son's range .... the pictures show the target (on the right) at 25 yards, then back to 100 yards .... on the left is a metal torso silhouette .... he consistently rang the gong on the silhouette at 100 yards with both his 22 Ruger 10-22 and his Henry 357 .... the 4 power Nikon on the Ruger is dead on .... the 3 X 9 Nikon on the 357 needs some fine tuning .... he will be spending most this week with us and we hope to get back out there soon

I hadn't read any of this until the last 30 minutes it took me to go through it all, and what a great story!! Thanks so much for sharing it and keeping it updated.

As others have said (many times), it's a great tradition you have going, you're a FANTASTIC grandfather and he's one lucky grandson.

And, it's so great to see Jacob progress and grow into his BBS and get better and better. Please keep us updated and thanks again for sharing!

Nice to know Jacob hasn't changed since I last meant him in Dec. Looking forward to shooting with him again.

first time I've been able to shoot with him since that day in December .... sure hope not to have to wait for that long to do so again .... looking forward to your return, we were talking about it this morning

looking back through this thread its hard to believe Jacob is now 12 years old .... the picture below shows his first and last day of school this year in which he's grown a little over 4" ....

I'd sure like to take credit but it rightly goes to his parents .... he's recently earned his first level black belt in Taekwondo .... I believe the years of training and discipline have really been a positive influence on him
