Has anyone shot the NEW Henry BBS,44mag. with the 1-20 ROT ? Did you notice better overall accuracy over the Old 1-38 ROT, with either the lighter (200g) and heavy grain bullets (300g.) ? This "cabin fever" might get more expensive !

I always wondered who came up with the 1 in 38 rifling for .44 magnum rifles. A revolver for that caliber has a lot faster spin on the bullet. It isn't like the .44 slugs are very long either. Just like the loading gate H.R.A. is finally thinking for itself.

I have an older Henry BBS 44 mag about 5 or so years with 20 inch bbl.so it is probably a 1 in38 twist. I have only shot my cast bullets in it , a 240 gr, WFNGC and a 275 gr. WFNGC. It's a 2-1/2" to 3 inch rifle at best with those at 100 yards. I've gone through a lot of different components to try and tighten up the groups. Sometimes I get lucky and find one but then it doesn't last long because even that seems to fall apart. Still, it's deer hunting accuracy and not a target rifle.

Check out some of JEBars targets with his 44. He shoots a Nosler bullet with a stiff charge of H-110 and gets some great groups.

I most certainly agree that a 3" group at 100 yards out of big bullet, revolver cartridge ain't bad at all .... our Henry 44 Mag BBS is about as old as yours .... we only shoot jacketed bullets .... our load is 23.8 gr of W296 or H110 pushing a Nosler 240 gr JHP or JSP .... its muzzle velocity is around 1500 fps which yields a fairly flat 100 yard trajectory .... that load has consistently delivered, over time, as good of groups as I'm capable of shooting .... samples are shown below were all were fired from a bench rest
