Got Maple?
Got Maple?
This is a pretty 'traditional' forum, with lots of beautiful Walnut-and-blued-steel. That's typically the look I prefer, but lately I seem to have acquired a taste for Maple. I'm just curious if anyone else has any Maple furniture...

roddy, that actually looks really nice. I've seen a Marlin 336 in Maple that I didn't care for. But, your Browning is really nice. Good find. It just fits that .22.

Re: Got Maple?
nice looking rifle .... I'm no expert when it comes to telling one wood from another .... we do have a couple of Winchester shotguns with light colored wood stocks which look OK .... personally, I prefer the looks of walnut or other darker wood stocks
Re: Got Maple?
For the beautiful appearance and appeal which crafted wood displays, I think all wood is good.

Re: Got Maple?
Nice looking furniture. I only have 1 gun with maple - a Sig 1911-22 that I made grips for. Maple, like many woods will change color over time from the original light color to a deep honey color as you can see in this pic of my Sig. The stripes are Ebony, cut with a scroll saw. Used birdseye hard maple, and this was the color after about 5 years. Seems to have stabilized in the last few years.
Cherry for example will turn quickly to look almost as dark as walnut if you leave it out in the sun for a week or so. Other woods will bleach out. These color changes are largely the result of UV. Some finishes will slow the process, but given enough time they will change.
Just something to keep in mind when selecting wood for a project.
