Unusual Bolt Wear

Post by azdover » Tue Apr 15, 2025 11:20 am

Is anybody seeing this kind of bolt wear on their 22LR lever actions? The pictures are actually the bolts in my H003T 22LR. I've already posted this in the pump section but haven't got any replies yet. I thought I'd post in the rimfire lever section since the bolts in both the levers and pumps are similar although not exactly the same.

It looks like the locking bar is deforming the bottom of the bolt, causing a small divot and raising a small lip. After firing, the bolt and forend move back slightly causing the action to lock iup. I have to push the forend fully forward or use the grooved release button in front of the trigger before I can cycle the rifle.

This is the second bolt after about 500 rounds. The first bolt was replaced by Henry when rifle went back for misfires and excessive headspace problems. The first bolt didn't show this kind of wear.

After a second trip back to Henry for the locked action and bolt wear, they rechecked headspace and replaced the bolt and locking bar again. This is a third bolt after only 200 rounds.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Pete

Don't see it on mine. Maybe call Henry as it has a lifetime warranty. Sending it back is a pain but it should be made right.

How long have you had yours and do you have a rough rounds count?

My rifle has been back to Henry twice already. First time for misfires due to excessive headspace and the second time for the current wear/locked action problem.

The first trip back they reset the original barrel further into the receiver to adjust headspace. They also replaced the locking bar and the original bolt although it didn't show this wear problem. The second time, they rechecked headspace and again replaced the locking bar and second bolt.

Guess I could send it back one more time. Maybe third time's a charm. If the same problem happens again I'll ask them to replace the rifle, maybe with a lever action. I really like this little rifle and bought it new last summer to go shooting with the grandkids. But two trips back to the home planet with a potential third one coming up is getting a little old.

Thanks for the reply,
Pete

I would call and ask and send pictures and ask for a new rifle. I my opinion You have a bad receiver something is off where those parts move on the inside. I have the up most confidence that Henry will make it right. I know its a royal inconvenience and disappointment.
