Henry Homesteader Function Test

Post by Sir Henry » Wed Jul 01, 2026 7:18 pm

I shot the Homesteader for the second time today. The first time was a G17 magazine of 115 grain. Today was a magazine of S&B 40 grain subsonic The Henry was wearing a Gemtech Lunar 9.

Function wise it cycled all 17 rounds without a hiccup. Accuracy was 15 out of the 17 hit the 7”x12” AR500 steel. The two misses was operator error.

I did not wear ear protection and thought i should the next time. The Lunar 9 only had the primary tube to make it shorter and lighter. Next time I’ll shoot it with the extension tube. I bought this because i can shoot it on the G17 also with the LID inserted. Now that i have it I’m thinking I should get the Lunar 9K with the thinner tube for the Glock. Cans are nice on pistols but the bigger tubes covers the sights.

I switched cans and put the Lunar9 on the Glock and a Deadair RXD910Ti on the Henry. The Henry was much quieter and the Glock functioned perfectly. I was having trouble with the Glock before.

I’m just now beginning to understand it. Obviously you can’t shoot a 9mm in a 22 cal tube but there is also recoil systems that you need to deal with. Most specifically if the barrel is fixed like in a Beretta M9 or moving like in the Glock 17/19.

Check and see if anyone makes a stronger recoil spring for the henry. Tuning that spring and holding the bolt closed for a smidge longer time will lower the tone of the port pop considerably.

That Homesteader is a good looking firearm. Kinda like an upscale classy Ruger PC. Fun project you have going there.
