we handload all of our center fire ammo .... decades ago we decided to largely go with 30 caliber because back then and I believe its still true today that it has the widest range of available bullets to choose from .... while a 30-06 can most certainly handle a wide range of bullet weights we pretty much stick with 165 gr Nosler bullets .... for contrast we go with 150 gr bullets in our 308 and 180 gr bullets in our 300 WBY Mag .... with jacketed bullets in our 30-06 we load 165 gr Nosler Accubond bullets .... for solid copper bullets we load 165/168 gr Nosler E-Tips .... for both we follow Nosler's recommendation and load 57 gr of IMR 4350 ....

Pretty much what JEBar loads. In my Ruger No.1B 30-'06, it's Hornady 180's and 57.0gr H4350. That load was terrific on elk. 165's with 58.0gr H4350 for deer. Ahh, my last hunt for big game was 2012 outside of the ghost town Bodie, close to Bridgeport, Ca. Now, it's upland birds and lever rifle plinking.

Surplus military from South Korea. PS headstamp so it is non-corrosive.

I am reloading light loads for my 1903 Springfield using Trail Boss and 147g FMJ projectiles. I also have a light load using a Laser Cast lead bullet and HS-6. Both loads recoil like a .22 Magnum and will shoot decent groups at 50 meters. They are accurate enough to hit clay birds at 100 yards.
