I am looking for a lever gun lock that would allow the action to be completely closed, or at least mostly closed. Ideally it would work with a BIg Boy .44 Mag in a soft carry case. I saw these online and wonder if anyone knows about either one? I quite like the first one in the pics below. It appears to be a factory Marlin lock but I haven’t found a source to buy one from.





I was contemplating making something with a plastic coated steel cable that could be pushed into the chamber without hurting it (or the rifling and crown) I have tried locking the lever around the stock using various length small cable gun locks and that is pretty lame.

This Master Python might work OK - the cable is plain on one end and has a larger fitting on the other, that locks into the body... https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-841 ... =8-27&th=1... A guy could drill out the “bullet” end of a snap cap, and epoxy the bigger end of the cable inside. That way your chamber “ball” would be an easy to see, perfect fitting dummy round. If you filed off the rim, the extractor could not pull on it, and you would have to unlock and push on the other end of the cable to remove it.




Any suggestions for what is essentially a “locking chamber flag”?

If you filed off the rim, the extractor could not pull on it, and you would have to unlock and push on the other end of the cable to remove it.

And if you file off the rim the dummy might get pulled further into the chamber/barrel, get stuck, and not be able to be pushed out.

Great idea for a lock but leave the rim - maybe even use a 'real' brass case for this part.

I had considered that but it is plastic and can be pried off easily with a pair of pliers, plus I don’t think the hammer block will work on my BBX which has a pistol grip stock. The “lock” part is lame, you have to unscrew a threaded bolt.

Great comment, I had not considered the possibility of the dummy getting stuck in the chamber.... I think it fairly unlikely but if it did happen, it would definitely make me mad.

I like this one. The price is nice also.

I have used this one: https://www.amazon.com/FSDC-California- ... _i=4200821. I just loop the lever and stock twice. But, my Marlins came with one like this, which I am not crazy about.

If I wanted one, I personally like the top pic.
I really don't foresee a situation when I would need to lock my lever rifles. I have no kids, and my guns live in a safe, all except for my night stand pistol.

I used one, because I was traveling through 7 States. It seemed like a simple way of reducing and foolishness.

Yes GFK, after posting I thought of the travel issue...makes sense given varying laws.

I have a cable lock similar to that Amazon one and it is functional, sort of, but I dislike it and it is really poor quality.

When traveling, I have been pulled over for various reason. Since I was traveling in a pickup, I thought it would be best to have my rifle as secure as I could. Whether sobriety checks or theft, I wanted to remove any doubt of my intentions.

I guess someone could make their own. A padlock type hinge might work. Of course, some welding and shaping may be involved.

I found one of the cable locks on the first page, it appears to be discontinued. I could not find a supplier.....
