Steel side loader.

So I noticed that the latest 45-70’s have 20” barrels(19.8). Has anyone asked Henry if they are planing to change the current steel model from 18 to 20. I think that would be a good idea. Also those of you with the side loaders. Do you end up with bloody thumbs after loading your rounds in like my marlin does to me?

Try loosening up the spring tension on your Marlin gate. I've done that on my Rossi which can be a thumb eater too!
Haven't tried a Henry side loader yet and hope they don't have the gate sprung to hard.
A 16.5 barreled .45-70 Henry would be sweet!

My Marlins load smooth as butter.
No bloody fingers.
I did do extensive work on them but the two easiest things were to decrease the spring rate on the loading gate and to shorten the magazine spring to a length of 3 cartridges past the magazine tube unsprung.
