I just ordered a Henry Big Boy Steel in .45 Colt. I have been checking around and have previously gotten 3 quotes from local gun shops. None in my area stock them. Two stock only the Brass models which I don't want. Any way, I got quotes of..........ready for this......$999.00, $850.00 and $799.99. Today, my local range quoted me a price of......$719.00 it will come to $804.00 with tax and DROS fee. Needless to say I ordered it immediately. Now my SAA in .45 Colt will have a companion! :D

I was told that it would be 5-6 days for shipping time to the range and then our FUBAR 10 day waiting period here in California. I'm used to waiting having lived in CA all my life. Back in the 70's it was a 15 day waiting period.

I think you're going to love 45 colt in a rifle. I ran across a great deal on a 20 inch Rossi, and I couldn't resist. It's too much fun. I've got a round ball load that sounds like a pellet rifle, and a 350 gr cast bullet load that smacks like a freight train. My plinking load is a 250 gr cast bullet at a little over 1000 fps with very little recoil.

Thanks guys, my local range is outstanding. I have been going there for 20 years and have ordered handguns from them but this is my first rifle from them. Prices at the range are very good. We pay $14.00 for the first shooter and 8 for the second shooter. Plu that is for shooting all day from 10 am to 10 pm. you can even leave, go grab lunch and go back and shoot some more for no other cost!! Unbelievable!! If you're ever in my neck of the woods, Oceanside, CA (home to Camp Pendleton USMC base) check out the Iron Sights indoor range. The folks that run it are fantastic!!

Congrats on that .45 Henry! Is that the Carbine model?
Amazed that California would allow such a great shooting range from all the things I hear and read!

Like to learn more about that 350 gr. bullet load! Will it cycle thru that Rossi?

Agree with this here, very fun out of a rifle.
I have one in a Marlin 1894 Cowboy. It's a hoot.
Hoping to do a little deer hunting with it this Fall.

I misspoke on the bullet weight. It's a lee 340 grain .457 powder coated and sized down to .454. I'm using Hodgdon published data for a 360 grain bullet. I'm not sure if I've ever tried to run them through the magazine. I tend to single load the Rossi when I'm shooting off the bench. I'll be glad to try it tomorrow.

Are you affiliated with that bunch? I absolutely love that channel. Such a shame about Wind. I know he's greatly missed.

I do know several of them, Steve the guy shooting and I were just up in Minn. this past week on a pheasant hunt.
Wind was a special kind of man, and is greatly missed for sure.

I've never had an opportunity to shoot at ranges of that distance ... ever since Quigley I've wanted a rifle with a Vernier Long Range Tang Sight .... if I had access to a place with such ranges, I would be seriously in the market .... that said, while it would probably be a Henry lever action, I have no clue what caliber or rifle I'd want
