Couldn't do without my Henry for two months (waiting for new barrel to ship from the US and get it installed...see copper fouling thread) so bought this little beauty. Can't wait to shoot it! .44 Carbine. Henry are so awesome and their customer is second to none.

The Carbine models are really nice handling. I really like them. Nice rifle.

Congrats, Omegaspeedy. Looks like you're all set for the range and after --- ammo, bore brushes, new Henry Carbine with that beautifully-checkered wood furniture!

I think you're going to love your new rifle. I picked one up in early December. I almost feel like I need to cover it up if I select a different rifle for a hog hunt. I found that in sighting mine in at 50 yards, I had to really drop the insert in the semi-buckhorn rear sight. Congrats on your new rifle!

congrats on your new Henry .... its a beautiful rifle .... outside of a little basic information, I know very little about your home country .... thanks for being willing to read and post on our forum .... just curious, are Henry rifles in common use ? .... do you use yours for hunting or on public firing ranges ? .... if so, what has been the reaction of people who have seen yours ?

Thanks my friends, I'll definitely do a range report on Wednesday when I can get it out. These carbines sure do feel so good in hand. Very light and nimble. It wouldn't be too hard to have it on your back all day in the forest or mountains.

JEBar, about New Zealand, we are a small country with 4.8m citizens made up of two main Islands (Though there is many more small Islands). As NZ in long, our climate ranges from Tropical Maritime in the north to Polar Maritime in the south with low lying temperatures of -5-10C in winter to 10-35C in the summer. We have a pronounced four seasons and sometime all in one day . NZ in built on the the edge of some big tectonic plates so we have SSW-NNE mountain ranges nearly the entire length of our South Island and halfway up our North Island. We get minor earth quakes and on rare occasions some very serious shakes. Ag (meat, milk) is our number one export due to excellent farming land which is very fertile. The topography ranges from great plains, undulating hills, dense native forests, great lakes, extensive alpine environments and beaches of all varieties (White sand, black iron sand, rocky cliff etc). It's a pretty multi cultural country with a local people (Maori) and Polynesian populous due to our location in relation to the Pacific Islands (Tonga, Samoa, Rarotonga, Fiji, and Niue. Due to our farming culture, we have a high gun ownership per head of capita and reasonable gun laws (which are always being infringed on by governments and any gunners). There's lots of hunting here from rabbits all the way to Tahr. Heaps of wild pigs and goats. The jewel in the crown hunting wise is many variety of Deer. NZ is generally a friendly safe place with stable government but like all countries, there's always a few rotten apples that cause problems. Generally a nice place to live.

Henry rifles get a positive response when I take it down to the range and have a lot of respect. Most of my shooting is just plinking down at the range. I live on the edge of our biggest city (Auckland) and though there's farms all around here, I don't have access to that land which always has stock on it anyway.

Thanks for the info about you're country. Very Interesting and I for one enjoy hearing about that part of the world. My boss visited there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I would like to get to that part of the world someday but right now its on the bucket list. I hear the trout fishing there is top notch to. So when one goes to the gun store to buy a Henry what do they sell for there and are you required to wait for a period of time before you can take it home or can you take it with you right away. Al

You're welcome BigAl52. Yes the trout fishing is superb. In the south Island, there a many rivers and stream that may have never been touched or very rarely.

Our gun laws are such that we get vetted every ten years when we re-new our licence. So with that in mind, we can just walk into a store and buy a rifle with a moments thought then walk out with it. A rifle is any firearm that is greater than 762mm in length (nothing to do with calibre) and issn't a Military Style semi auto. Anything below 762mm is a pistol and highly restricted. We can still own AR's etc but they have to have a thumbhole stock and limited to seven rounds.

Nice new rifle James! I might seriously consider selling my Marlin 45-70 and replacing it with a BBS .44 Carbine. I love my .357 Carbine!

You guys have great hunting in NZ from what I’ve seen and heard. I’ve been to Oz a couple of times, but not NZ yet. It’s somewhere I’d like to visit for sure.

That 762 mm number is overall length I presume?

In Canada it’s all about (aboot!?) barrel length. Anything over 470 mm (18.5”) in the barrel is non restricted, under that barrel length in semi-auto or under 660 mm (26”) overall length is restricted (different permit required, and limited to legal ranges). Handguns with barrels less than 105 mm (4.13”) and .25 and .32 are prohibited, along with full auto. That said, there are tons of prohibited class guns legally owned, but there are very few people with the license to own them, and unless you had that license a LONG time ago,you are out of luck. Because there are so few people with prohib licenses, those guns are very inexpensive. If a 5” barrel pistol is worth $1000, a 4” barrel in the same gun might go for $200 as almost nobody can own one. There are very few civilians who can carry handguns here. If you are not LEO, armed guard etc, the only other carry permits would be for trappers and prospectors, and would only be for while actively engaged in those activities.

Thanks for sharing the FA rules of Canada. I find it interesting to hear what other countries structures are. Heres a break down of ours. Hopefully they keep it as it is. There is a review going on now and our government is hard left and way up the UN's bum. (The UN have a mandate to disarm all member countries).

Our structure is has categories.

A-Cat is general. All firearms including AR-15 type sporting rifles equal to and above 762mm long limited to 7rd centre-fire, no free standing pistol grip, no bayonet lug and no full auto.

B-Cat Pistol. Firearms under 762mm. Must belong and shoot at a club certain amount of times a year. Heavily vetted but not out of reach.

C-Cat Restricted firearms. Collectors to own full auto or anything. Firearm not allowed to be shot ever.

D-Cat Dealer. Sales and purchase.

E-Cat MSSA (Military style semi-auto). AR-15, AK etc as per A-Cat except not restricted to 7rds, can have a free standing pistol grip and bayonet lug. Effectively your standard un-mollested AR-15. Heavier vetting for mental well being and higher security required but also not out of reach.

Have you been out to shoot it yet? I took the plunge and listed my .45-70 Marlin for sale this morning. If it goes, I’ll be ordering a CCH Carbine in .44 mag as a replacement. (Not sure why I said BBS in my previous post, I’ve already got one of those).
