Have any of you installed the skinner receiver mounted peep sights and NOT had to also change the front sight?

From what I've read some people have and some people haven't. Seems to be right at the borderline and the only way to tell is shoot it.

I ordered the Big Boy Express sight for my .357mag carbine yesterday. I plan on shooting it with the factory front and if that doesn't work out I'll order a new one.

FWIW:
Skinner receiver sights on my .357 Henry, work best after installation of the tall fiber optic front sight also sold by Skinner.
The original Henry factory front sight was too short and all of my shots at 50 yards were 6"-8" above point of aim.
Good news is: because of my new, improved sight picture, my on target accuracy and groupings have improved tremendously.
Henry Big Boy Rifles and Skinner Receiver Sights, W/ fiber optic front sight, are a great combination.

Thanks sharpessword! I am waiting for my Skinner sight and tall fiber optic (.570) to arrive. I hope that is the right size. I will advise when received, installed and shot.

Welcome to the site from CT, sharpessword. And thanks for the helpful advice. I've got a Brass Big Boy .357 and intend to install Skinner's peep on the receiver.

All I did was measure the stock front sight and ordered the same height, width and
bead diameter from MidwayUSA. Skinner didn't have a fiber optic front sight for the
Big Boy Steel 44 Mag, so I just ordered from MidwayUSA.

I had to change front sight, better plan on it then if you don't you get a bonus.
Some don't, but I think a lot of people do have to change front sights.

Squatch has a Skinner peep on the receiver and a Lyman up front. After shooting his BB, I put the same on mine. I usually use the insert on the Lyman with the little circle. With this setup, basically, all you have to do is line up the aperture in the Skinner with the ring around the Lyman, and you will basically hit what is in the little circle. Very accurate and it looks good. In fact this setup works so well, that Squatch has named his BB, Mr. Ambassador, because everyone who has tried his rifle loves it and shoots it very well.

I took Skinner sights advice and tried it with the stock sights first which did not work out.
I installed the taller front sight and again following their advice turned the rear sight up 1.5 turns and sighted at 25 yards. It ended up being dead on with no filing required.

My 45 Colt with 8 grains of Unique behind a 250 cast bullet shoots 2" high at 50 yards. Have not changed out the front sight yet. Really like the Skinner sight and it looks good. Brass on brass. With my vision situation this is the best option without going to scope. Don't think that would look good on my rifle.

Eight grains of Unique is a pretty standard .45 Colt load. It'll get about 830fps in a 4-3/4" sixgun bbl. It's accurate, mild to shoot, & powerfull enough for most chores. It's a good load.

I had to replace the front sight on my Small Game Carbine with Skinner's .500 high post sight. This post sight is clearer than the bead sight was. The better sight picture is great but why have the added cost to the rifle when they know it will be required in the first place. Henry should just put a taller sight on and save the customer the problem.

By the way. I really like this little rifle. I plan on getting my daughter one also.
