Buttstocks

I have been wondering about the Henry 45/70 buttstocks. Are they solid or have they been drilled? Is there enough room for a shotgun-style "Mercury Recoil Dampener" ? ? ?

Get a Past pad that straps on to your shoulder so you can shoot ANY rifle or shotgun that has a little too much kick. My late friend had one that he used to shoot his two bore rifle. I now have it and use it for my three 45-70 rifles and my Savage 99-358 when I shoot them from the bench . I am on Warfarin so bruising of my shoulder shows up quickly but not when using the Past pad.

I've shot a lot of rounds downrange. When I shot "High Power" I used an M1A and a heavy shooting jacket by Champion. When I shot "Center Fire Silolett" it was a Steyr SSG-69 (308Win) and a Past Pad ( under a shotgun-type vest), and it worked for the first 30 to 35 rounds. When I went to trap I started out with a BT-99 and a light shotgun type vest. After a 100 singles (16yds line) I skipped the Doubles and sat on the tailgate waiting for Handicap (100 Rounds) and my shoulder to recover. During Winter League I needed to shoot Doubles, that's when I develop a 7/8 oz. load and added weight to the gun. About an 8 oz. mercury recoil dampener in the buttstock was more effective than reducing the 1&1/8 oz. [#7 1/2] load down to 7/8 oz.[ #8]. I have noticed the worst buttstocks are on rifles, especially lever-action rifles. Whereas even the general purpose entry-level shotguns have better buttstocks , . .

Years ago i had one for a shotgun i owned. You are the second person who has heard of a dampner. I would imagin it could be done now with tungsten shot in a tube.
