Got some of my chores done and took 2 hours to run away to the range this afternoon. Was a bit windy and 64º but no one else was there so I was able to relax a bit and shoot my new Henry 357 and 45 Colt on the 50 yard range. Did not have much ammo so I was shooting Geco 158 gr and then Magtech 125 gr 357. Had a bit of a challenge with the rear sight at first. It was shooting way high and right but once I was on the paper it was not bad until I ran low on ammo. The 158 gr was definitely hitting lower and I had to adjust the sight a click up for it.
Switched targets and was shooting Winchester 250 grain flat nose lead cowboy action shells for the 45 Colt. That was a better experience but I ran out of time and had to leave.
Overall it was fun and I was not disappointed with the results considering my cataract and iron sights. Really like both guns. The 357 carbine has nice balance and like the shorter barrel and the 45 Colt rifle handled very well and was placing the shots a bit better. Sure it had something to do with the ammunition I had available. Looking forward to going again when I can take some time to do better.

This target was for the 357, had some trouble getting the sight adjusted but the last five shots were the 4 in the lower ten ring to the left and the flier to the right on the 10 ring line. Figured good enough for now and brought out the 45. This is the target for the 45, shot 20 rounds and was pleased. Was shooting at the 50 yard range and the brass bead on both guns completely covered the target so I thought that would do until I come up with a better sight.

Are you shooting factory loads Ernie.

Yes. The 45 was Winchester cowboy action lead flat nose 250 gr. First 5 shots were low and I raised the sight a notch.

I put the skinner peep on my 357 carbine, and my groups improved immediately. Also used a six o'clock hold, floating the bull on the bead, so I got a better sight picture, and adjusted the sights accordingly. Even Miss T was amazed at how quick she could ring the plates with the carbine set up that way.

Have a Skinner peep for the 357 but I have to get a different front sight as it shoots toooo high. Will get a measurement and order a replacement. I usually use a six o'clock hold, I was just surprised at how large the bead appeared.

That's pretty good shootin' with the 45 using the cowboy loads maybe going 900 out of the rifle.

Not bad for 50yrds with the factory irons. I also put a Skinner peep on my 357 carbine and had to put a very tall
front blade sight on it.

Thanks, just using what I could find. Been shopping for a chronograph. Can't make up my mind on what to buy.
