Had an old Weaver K4 laying around, and since I plan on elk hunting with my Henry 45-70, put the scope on and went to the range to sight it in. After 12 shots, it is on at 50 yards. I will give my shoulder a rest, and go back in a couple of days to get it on at 100. I love the rifle shooting offhand, but it is a bit punishing off the bench.
To reward myself after the bench session, I shot my Golden Boy, which is just sheer pleasure.

understood on the need to let your shoulder rest .... I'm not familiar with a Weaver K4 .... to do a good job on a 45-70 it has to be designed to handle the recoil .... looking forward to following your progress

Used a lot of those fixed power K series Weavers, back in the day. Lots of memories.

Got a bid in on one for a 22 now.
Got to wait til Fri. to see ifn I'm da winner.

Oh ya 45-70 off the bench with Elk loads will say hello to you for sure

The K4 is a sturdy, no frills scope that I wish was still in production. Should work just fine on a heavy kicker like a 45-70.

Hey I did the exact same thing lol... shoot the cannon till my shoulder couldn't take it then pulled out the .357 brass (which now feels like a pellet gun) I did get some great advice on slower loads. Gonna get into the cowboy cartridges next

I have a K-3 on my Marlin 45-70 Guide gun. That scope has been on several of my rifles over the last 45 years.

K4 was ( is ) a good scope. Had one years ago. Don't recall what happened to it.
