long ranger .223
just picked up #5 henry. It has nice wood and fit and finish is awesome, of course. if you baby the action it seems stiff, but if you work it with authority it is smooth. mounted a redfield 4-12 on and just cant wait to shoot it tomorrow. i sure hope henry makes a long ranger in 30-06 soon.

I bought one a few days ago myself. Let us know how you like it and how the Redfield works on it.

I’m assuming they will not do a 30-06, as the action would have to be substantially longer than it needs to be for .308.

Re: long ranger .223
went out shooting today eventhow it was snowing and wet. today was a comedy of errors on my part. first the weather was not good, but hey got a new rifle, it needs to be shot. my buddy and I made so many rookie mistakes. bore sighted the scope and then moved it without bore sighting again. tried to get on paper at 200 yds, got confused about which rock we were shooting at. and we both were trying to sight in new rifles at the same time,Good thing we get along so well. the long ranger is one awesome rifle. when working the action in the bench rest it is stiff and does not feed and eject good. but when standing or sitting and working the action like you are shooting a coyote it is smooth and flawless.will total dismantle and clean and polish the action soon. it was a joy to shoot and once sighted in ,will put a smile on your face. was able to hit 6'' rocks at 200 yrds from the sitting position in a snow storm, no problem. thats coyote in a nut shell. keep a 2'' , 5 shot group at 200 yds.with hornady 40gr factory ammo no problem. the redfield 4-12 is a good scope but I feel it looks just a bit to long on this rifle.will keep looking for a shorter scope some day. once again I am happy to have bought a Henry.looks good ,shoots good , and works good,

When I zero mine I'll start plinking at pieces of clay at 25 yards to get it close them move further out. I want it zeroed for 200 yards. Forty grain bullets in .223? What is the fps? When I buy my scope I might pick some up.
