Sling installation

Post by Jaker » Fri Apr 08, 2016 11:24 pm

Today I put sling studs and a sling on my big boy 357 carbine I ordered from Henry and I believe a hunter brand sling, also made in USA. A couple of pointers I would suggest are measure the depth of hole it was 7/8" in instructions and I measured that far on drill bit and taped it off with black tape, I HIGHLY reccomend taping the stock of so it does not splinter when drilling out the stock...l learned the hard way even though the sling swivel all but covers it up. Here are a few Pictures, glad I did this and good luck!!

Another little thing I do is to take one of my RCBS deburring tools or a counter sink tool and counter sink the hole slightly so the swivel or the quick detach stud thread gets its start slightly below the edge of the wood so it doesn't pull a piece out of the stock when it starts to thread in.

Very nice work. It pays to prep a little. The results show it for a long time.

I agree! Thanks for the pics and the tips. When working with wood, it's either right, repaired, or ruined. Great job!
