Got to the range on Sunday.
Man, this is a fun rifle! She ran like a champ with .357's but .38's were a problem. Tried two rounds, and had to break it down both times to clear a squib. *** important lesson: if something feels wrong, stop and check the bore. *** 1st time I felt nothing at all, so I figured it didn't chamber ... Imagine my surprise when I cycled it again, and a spent shell ejected. I ran a bore snake down the barrel, and no go. After a cleaning rod effortlessly punched the bullet the rest of the way out, I tried again to see if it was just a bad round. Nope. Each time it came within 1/4 inch of clearing the muzzle, but not quite. The ammo (Herters 158 gr.) cycled fine, but I'm guessing it was just underpowered. It felt normal in my 4" S&W 686, but would not clear the 20" barrel.
I'll have to try some hotter brands in .38 next time.
