How to do an action job on a Henry Steel

I just got a new Henry Steel 357. It shoots great and is very accurate. The action is pretty good but I wan to slick it up a little more. Anyone else done this and have any pointers?

Hello Brother Love,

Watch the disassembly and re-assembly/ cleaning videos on Henry's website. Disassemble it and clean and lube. Reassemble and keep it unloaded and work the action over and over while you are watching TV. Take it out and shoot it some more, it will break in nicely.

There have been a few more things I've done just for kicks but clean lube and shoot them will do it just fine.

I agree, send some lead down range and after a little while that action will make you grin ear to ear.

I sent 60 more down range yesterday and I can already tell the difference. My problem now is picking up the brass bead. I am about to try a dot of orange paint and if it works I may try a fiber optic front sight. I do not want to scope this rifle.

The action should get easier very quickly so I wouldn't worry about that. How is the trigger pull?

The trigger pull is fantastic! I emailed Henry this morning to ask the front sight height so I could get a fiber optic sight. I had an answer within 5 minutes!!!! I have never received that kind of service from anyone.

Some people suggest watching The Walking Dead. I much prefer Longmire. You will get much better results, and be in a much better mood afterwards.

we have 3 different Henry rifles ... 357, 44 mag, 45-70 ... our experience has been that the statements made concerning the more you shoot them the smoother the action will get are correct ... if/when you should find a way to speed up the process and/or to improve the front sight, please share the info

I shot 60 more rounds about 20 min ago and it gets slicker with every shot. I did have a couple of "hang-ups" today but I figured out I was the problem. I did not cycle deliberately enough and the empty did not quite eject. When I cycled correctly all was well. The trigger is fantastic. A little dot of orange paint helped my accuracy today until my fiber optic sight arrives.
