I'm 75 years old and can't tell you when I started shaving .... lets just say its been a pretty good while .... from day one I've used canned shaving cream and some type of regular razor .... in recent years I've gone through periods of talking myself into and out of buying an electric shaver .... well, I finally did so .... after considerable reading I ordered a Philips Norelco Shaver ===>https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083JCXPY1?re ... tails&th=1 .... price was a consideration as is its 4.5 out of 5 star rating based on 19,876 ratings .... quote taken from it manual :

I started using shave butter instead of shaving cream. I like it a lot better. I used an electric for a while but never did get as close a shave as a razor, not that I cared once I retired.

I've always used a wet razor, tried a electric a few times and never liked them. Since retiring I usually only shave once a week so electric is definitely out. I went back to a old style single blade razor as the multi-blade razors clog up with a weeks beard growth, I even got a quality brush and bowl and have tried several different shaving soaps. The trick with the single blades is to change them often, I only use them for 2 shaves, that's only 2 a month and they're cheap on Amazon.

Jim, I had sensitive skin and used an electric razor from my mid 20's until my late 40's. A fellow I worked with extolled the virtues of the single blade safety razor and I went to one of them. I rarely use the electric razor anymore. If it's been a month or so, I use the trimmer first then the electric shaver.
I'm with Dave on this one. I have enjoyed a nice lather with a bowl and brush with "specialty" soaps. I have gotten my money's worth. Badger hair and almond soap are a nice combo. On rare occasions, I get one of the straight razors out. They are an acquired taste and skill, but I love them. It's like percolating coffee, you have to have enough time to do it right. Generally it's the safety razor or the Harry's specialty razor I got at Target a couple of years ago.
I hope you get to your 21 day mark and enjoy the shaver. I preferred the Phillips with three rotating heads to the Remington shaver. I had both.

I use Ivory soap and drug store brand disposables.

Have never tried a straight razor, too scary.

decades ago while walking the Appalachian Trail I shaved a few times using hand soap, water from a cold mountain stream and my Buck 110 Folding Hunter .... didn't slice off anything other than the whiskers .... still carry a 110 on my belt and keep it razor sharp .... no plans to ever shave with it

I'll stick to my German made straight razors. One is a true straight razor and the other takes replacement blades. You just need to pay "sharp" attention to what you are doing. Pun intended.
