irrigation maintanance

Spent a couple of days digging out our irrigation canal. The creek we get our water from can get pretty muddy at times and only runs clear later in the summer so a lot of sand and dirt will settle out in the slower moving water in the canal. Unfortunately that means we have to dig it out of the canal every year, also have to weed-eat the trail several times a year (more if it's a bad tick year) and spray the poison oak that keeps encroaching on the canal and path, it's very thick in places along the creek.
I wish I had some of the farm kids living close by like Sir Henry, I'm getting too old for this.
The pipe extends around a 100ft up the creek
Overflow for excess water to go back into the creek.
We use the pump for our property, the pipe continues on down to property down the road. They have enough pressure built up to not need a pump. It's actually a very old system, it's all in pvc now but the water used to be carried in oak flumes across our pasture piped under the road and then in oak flumes on down the canyon.
