Owned my inground 500 gal tank for 26 years. No longer can buy them locally. All want to rent and jack up price. Just paid $2.41 /gal. Burn alot of wood in winter as most of my wood is free except for fuel for splitter and saw. Many places dont allow burning wood full time. So far not an issue in NH.
That’s the going prepaid price around here when you rent the tanks. I paid $1.17 last fall.

The three 1,000 gallon house tanks stick out like a sore thumb.

How about painting them lawn green. Of course then they'd stick out when you have snow on the ground.
Or I could paint red and white bullseyes on them.

I’ve only used about 15 gallons in the last month. My total for the last nine months is 480 gallons. At $1.17 a gallon thats about $62.50 a month for heat and hot water. Of course it was really a mild winter for Wisconsin.

I envy your propane prices. At least twice that if not more here.

Right now the price runs about $1.35 but will be a lot lower in August. If you fill up a barbie tanks it’s around $4 to $5 a gallon. I’ll be getting around 1,500 gallons. One of my tanks was delivered late and I didn’t fill it. I have three 1,000 gallons tanks and two 500 plus a 44 gallon tank on the RV.

Around here barbie tank size price is either side of $4 per gallon depending on the fill station. We have a 100gal tank that feeds the kitchen stove and outdoor barbie. Used only for cooking it lasts a long time. We have the tank filled every 4.5 to 5years. I think the current price for that is about $3.40/gal. We have the propane delivered - no rush - when they have a truck in the area filling other peoples tanks too.

It’s propane consumption reading time again. The house has used 50% or 500 gallons in the last 10 months. This is a 1,000 gallon tank.

The RV hasn’t used much at all. I started last winter keeping it at 40F but quickly turned it off and only heated it when in use which was mainly only during Packer games. This tank is only 500 gallons.

I will be getting both tanks filled next week and will pay $1.14 a gallon. In addition to the above tanks I also have another empty 1,000 gallon tank to fill. The 500 gallon garage and additional 1,000 gallon house tanks are already full from last year.

If you ever wondered why they only fill the tanks to 80% this is why. This tank was filled to 80% when the temperature was around 40F. It’s now 81F and is about 83% full.

My tanks were filled this morning. My RV took 62.7 gallons as measured at 60F. The house tank took 497 gallons and the tank they didn’t fill last fall took 800. I hadn’t realized the fuel really does expand as it gets warmer. They can only fill it to 80% at 60F but because the temperature is in the low 80’s they filled it to 84%. The sales meter compensates for the temperature so I only paid for the gallons at 60F.

I paid $1.14 ($1.13.9). At last years higher $1.17 price I averaged $58.15 a month for ten months. Useage in the summer is almost unmeasurable.

Wow.

Propane is quite a bit more expensive here in CT. Like, more than three times more!!!

The weekly average price (July 8th) was $3.612 per gallon excluding taxes. (https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/PET_PRI_WFR_DCUS_SCT_W.htm)

The average weekly price in Wisconsin during the same period was $1.699. (https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_wfr_dcus_SWI_w.htm)

Thanks for the info. Prices are now at the lowest and should stay this low for another months before rising 30% for the winter. I have enough propane to heat my house for three years.

5 gal tank refill here is about $3 per gallon.
100 to 1000 gallon tank fill about $2.07 per gallon.

Paid 2.41 in april and I own the tank. Markup is over 100%. not considering dealers other costs of delivery and insurance etc.
That seems a bit pricey. It’s about half that much here although gasoline is expensive here.

I just dont get the disparity in prices across the nation. transportation is the only variable. some of it has to be price gouging.
We use so much propane here it breeds competition. Prices were going up because one company got managers from the big corporate pool and drove prices up. That caused a neighboring dealer to come into this area and bring prices down. Same thing with tanks. I bought mine from a dealer in Arkansaw and had them shipped up for about a third of what they cost local.

The only gas station in Ogema got a new out of state owner and raised prices through the roof. People stopped buying their gas (and groceries) and now the nearest pump is 18 miles away. People refused to pay the high prices and the convenience store closed.

It’s right at 60F which is the correct temperature for reading the tanks. The meter shows I’ve used about 2.5% or 25 gallons. I must be taking long showers because the heat hasn’t been on. I suspect the gauge isn’t all that accurate. At any rate it cost me $28.50 for August if the gauge is to be believed.

Three months of summer/fall usage has burned 80 gallons. It’s 43F so the 60F adjustment would reduce it to about 74 gallons.

Ours is currently sitting at 40% after 3 years of usage. Will probably fill next summer sometime. Ours is 100 gal, used only for the kitchen stove top and BBQ.

My total capacity is 3,200 gallons which is 4,000 filled to 80%. A 500 gallon tank would not last a winter and getting a truck up the road in the winter was worrisome. I’m thinking of getting solar and wind power and going off grid.

Probably a good idea. My daughter and husband bought a house that came with a Tesla Power Wall (battery and solar panels). They've never been without power, and sell back to the power grid.

The Tesla Power Walls are the best but very expensive. I have projects already started that I need to finish before biting something else.
