I don't understand why our gas in WA is so expensive. State gas tax is only 26¢ more than Idaho, even after accounting for that the WA price was 83¢ more than Idaho.
From Google
Key factors for the price difference include:
Higher Taxes and Fees: Washington has one of the highest gas taxes in the nation, which increased by another 6 cents in July 2025.
Climate Commitment Act (CCA): This Washington cap-and-invest program requires fuel suppliers to purchase emission allowances, adding significant costs that are passed on to consumers.
Environmental Regulations: Idaho does not impose the same stringent carbon fees or regulatory,, meaning lower compliance costs for fuel suppliers.
Infrastructure & Operating Costs: Washington's infrastructure requires more maintenance, and higher overall operational costs can influence retail prices.
Conversely, Idaho’s lower taxes and lack of additional carbon-related regulations contribute to its lower, more stable gasoline prices.

The local news told me this morning that gas in the Spokane area is up .17 and in Coeur d’alene Idaho is up .22. Coeur d’alene will still be .60 or better cheaper than Washington due to high gas tax here. My wife is having cataract surgery which will require two trips to a location near Idaho next week and two more the following week. This will give me the opportunity to get gas much cheaper. I’ll drive whatever vehicle need gas.
